6 Reasons Thanksgiving Is Not Your Average American Holiday

Some Things You Didn't Know About Thanksgiving

WESTLAND, Mich. –– With turkey at the center of Thanksgiving, it's easy to overlook the myriad oddities that make it a unique holiday Americans love. But if we look beyond the hours spent on meal preparation involved and the debates between white and dark meat, what might we find? We did a little fact hunting and came up with six reasons Thanksgiving isn't your average American holiday. From turkey trivia to historical holiday moments, these facts will change how you look at Thanksgiving.

1. The first TV dinners were Thanksgiving leftovers.

In 1953, Swanson had over 260 tons of frozen turkey leftover from Thanksgiving. To use up these leftovers, the company scooped turkey, potatoes, peas, and corn-bread into aluminum trays. The meals could be frozen and heated when ready to be consumed, and the concept of families eating around the dinner table was forever changed.

2. The first Thanksgiving football game.

The history of Thanksgiving football originates with the Detroit Lions, who hosted the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day in 1934. The Lions lost 19–16, which isn't surprising by today's standards, though they were a second-place team in 1934. Today, only two NFL teams––the Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys––host Thanksgiving football games each year, while a third game with no fixed opponents shifts between the rest of the NFL teams each year.

3. Tryptophan in turkey doesn't make you sleepy.

It's not the tryptophan in Turkey that is making you sleepy, it's your potatoes––and every other side dish replete with carbohydrates. Eating a huge plate of simple carbs and washing it down with alcohol will make you want to take a post-meal nap, but turkey won't.

4. A turkey can grow to be the size of a large dog.

The heaviest turkey ever served on Thanksgiving was 86 pounds, about the size of a large dog. However, this is uncommon, as most turkeys weigh in at 11–24 pounds. We're still trying to figure out how someone fits an 86-pound turkey in their oven.

5. Americans consume 690 million pounds of turkey on Thanksgiving.

On Thanksgiving, the turkey takes center stage in American homes, so it's not surprising the nation consumes 690 million pounds of it in one holiday. To give you an idea of how much turkey that is, imagine the weight of 172,500 new Ford cars.

6. The first Thanksgiving lasted three days.

Americans generally take one day to celebrate Thanksgiving, unless you count the weekend after as a continuation of that celebration. Either way, today's Thanksgiving holiday doesn't hold a candle to the pilgrims' celebration. Over the course of three days, new inhabitants of American partook in plenty of good eating, games, dancing, and shooting to celebrate their arrival.

When you're at the table with family and friends for Turkey Day this November, test their holiday knowledge and see if they're aware of these six reasons Thanksgiving isn't your average American holiday. If you're traveling for Thanksgiving this year, make sure you plan accordingly and use our Thanksgiving travel tips to avoid traffic. Crews Begin Set Up of North American International Auto Show

Crews Begin Set Up of North American International Auto Show

WESTLAND, Mich. –– Last week, crews began setting up the 2016 North American International Auto Show at Cobo Center in Downtown Detroit, although workers have been preparing the space since mid-October.

While NAIAS 2016 won't take place until Jan. 16, and run through Jan. 26, the event will take up 623,000 square feet on Cobo Center's main show floor and understandably takes at least three months to set up. For 2016, 75% the show will exhibit all-new or redesigned vehicles of the 40 automakers will showcase altogether, according to The Detroit News.

“Our theme this year is ‘All Roads Lead to Detroit’ and we’re looking at the great opportunity that the local auto manufacturers pick the North American International Auto Show as their venue of choice for worldwide unveilings and the technologies that they’re going to bring,” NAIAS 2016 Chairman Paul Sabatini told The Detroit News.

One of the focal points of NAIAS 2016 will be new vehicle technologies, which have rapidly advanced in just the last few years, as seen in new Ford cars and new Ford trucks at our Ford dealer near South Lyon, MI.

As crews begin setting up the North American International Auto Show, those expecting to attend should anticipate an impressive showing of new vehicles and technologies. But the vehicle displays, some double-decker and totaling 40,000 square feet, could prove to be as impressive as the vehicles they showcase.

Alongside glamorous new vehicles, Detroit will offer attendees a new perspective of itself with plenty of recently established high-end restaurants, new developments and building renovations, and $279 million in upgrades to Cobo Center. With much to do in the city before and after the event, and with an array of futuristically designed and manufactured vehicles for attendees to gape at, NAIAS 2016 could turn out to be one of the best years yet in the show's history.

If you're planning on heading down to NAIAS 2016, make sure your vehicle is ready to make the trip. Stop in for any auto service or car repair your vehicle may need before winter takes over. North Brothers Ford, located at 33300 Ford Rd Westland, MI 48185, is proud to be one of the premier dealerships in Southeast Michigan committed to exceptional customer service! One in Four People Name Their Car

One in Four People Name Their Car
WESTLAND, Mich. –– The memories vary but one fact remains the same: it's easy to form an attachment to the car that you drive. So easy in fact that one in four people name their car.

No matter if it's your first car or your current car, each vehicle that you've owned has a set of memories and emotions attached to it. Your very first car is the vehicle that might not have looked its best, but you and your friends didn't really care––you had a car and that's all that mattered. When that car finally took its last ride, you moved on to your next vehicle, which may or may not have been the vehicle that you took your newborn home from the hospital in.

A survey conducted by Nationwide Insurance polled 1,082 U.S. car owners and discovered 25% of people give their vehicles a name. Of that 25%, 31% said they were inspired by the vehicle's color and appearance.

The poll also revealed that 36% of car owners between the ages of 18 and 34 are more likely to nickname their cars, and women more so than men. Men who name their vehicles are prone to naming their car after a famous or historical person or a character in a movie.

For the women that nicknamed their vehicles, one out of every four thought of their car as a girl. Two very famous examples of "girl" vehicles are Eleanor––from the film Gone in 60 Seconds––and Christine––from the movie Christine.

At North Brothers Ford, we understand why One in four people give their car a name because we're attached to our cars, too. Do you name your vehicles, too? Let us know your names in the comments below!

If you'd like to find a new vehicle to create memories with, stop by our Ford dealer near Brighton, MI, today. Whether you're looking for a new Ford car, new Ford truck or a Certified Pre-Owned car for sale, we've got a vehicle for you!

The Difference Between Buying a New Car Versus a Used Car

The Difference Between Buying a New or Used Car

WESTLAND, Mich.– Much like the debate over whether you should buy or lease a vehicle, you might also grapple with the difference between buying a new car versus a used car. Off the top of your head, you can probably think of a number of factors that go into this decision such as cost, technology, and repairs. But the questions you really want to answer ask how exactly those factors set apart the new from the used.

What does each cost?
More often than not, a new car will be pricier than a used car. This is because new vehicles tend to include newer technology, updated features, and modern design elements. However, if keeping up with automotive trends isn’t a priority for you, consider the fact that buying a used car will save you money due to its lack of contemporary features.

What are the differences in financing?
Interest rates hinge on a car’s resale value. It’s easier for a bank to predict how much a new car will depreciate compared to a used car (within 5 years new cars can depreciate by $9,000). Used cars come with higher interest rates than new cars do because they're more prone to major mechanical issues. Then there's the risk of a buyer who decides to bail on their used car purchase and leaves it for the bank to deal with a resale. A lender can make up for the uncertain resale value of a used car by hiking up the interest rate. However, despite used cars having higher interest rates, you still end up paying less in monthly payments because the cars principal is much lower than that of a new car.

How’s the gas mileage?
People really, really care about their gas mileage these days––you know how pricy the pumps can be. Of course, getting better fuel economy can be one of the perks of purchasing a new car. New cars usually get better gas mileage than used cars because, again, new cars tend to have updated technology. If you want to save money at the pump, a new car is your best bet.

Which costs more to insure?
Naturally, new cars cost more to insure than used cars do. Although new cars usually contain more updated safety features than used cars do, the higher cost of insurance for new cars is due to their overall higher value. The higher the value of the car, the more it costs to insure.

How much does maintenance and repairs cost?
A big chunk of a new car’s price tag includes a warranty that covers maintenance and repairs for a set amount of time. The great thing about a warranty is that you know most maintenance and repairs for are covered by the dealership or original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Just remember that eventually that warranty will disappear. Sometimes used cars come with warranties as well. These are called certified pre-owned vehicles, and you might consider this as an option for your next purchase. Aside from certified pre-owned vehicles, most used cars are more likely than new cars to require maintenance and repairs, which means you’ll end up paying more in that area. Then again, sometimes you get lucky and find a used car that runs forever without any major issues.

There are a number of important factors to ponder over when you look at the difference between buying a new car versus a used car. Hopefully this list breaks down some of the bigger differences for you, but feel free to come into our Plymouth area used car dealer with any other questions you might have. We'd be happy to give you the rundown on some of our used cars and trucks, and explain what makes them different from our new Ford cars and new Ford trucks. Either way, we’ll help you find the vehicle that’s right for you!

Ford Reveals Limited-Edition "Mustang Unleashed" T-Shirt Line

Ford Reveals Limited-Edition "Mustang Unleashed" T-Shirt Line

WESTLAND, Mich - Ford Motor Company and five top fashion innovators from around the world came together to create a one-of-a-kind t-shirt line in light of the Mustang's 50th Anniversary. Ford has revealed the limited-edition "Mustang Unleashed" t-shirt line, which features 15 different shirt designs that embrace the adventure, freedom, power and passion behind the Ford Mustang.

Ford Reveals Limited-Edition "Mustang Unleashed" T-Shirt Line "Mustang Unleashed" celebrates the Mustang's influence on pop culture over the past 50 years through various forms of symbolism and style. Each of the five designers was able to create three Mustang-inspired t-shirts that embodied the personality of the iconic pony car with the addition of their own personal flair. This was the inspiration for each of their designs:

Anna Sui: As a Detroit native, Sui's designs have a rock 'n' roll twist to reflect the Mustang's freedom, authenticity and inspiration. Her designs show you can evolve while remaining true to your identity.

Rogan Gregory and Scott Mackinlay-Hahn of Rogan: With much respect for minimalism and traditional quality, Rogan's inspiration came from the raw American heritage found within the modern, high-tech Mustang. This is featured in graphics of the shirt by the use of natural, hand-drawn lines.

Ford Reveals Limited-Edition "Mustang Unleashed" T-Shirt Line
Paula Cademartori: With a niche for femininity and fine details, Cademartori wanted to highlight geometric shapes, the fantasy of color and glamour and the idea of new experiences.

Tomaso Anfossi and Francesco Ferrari of CO|TE: Coming from a very contemporary point of view, CO|TE designs showcase the Mustang's attention to detail and various geometric elements. CO|TE wanted to show how the Mustang continues to evolve and move forward, without losing site of quality and tradition.

Pamela Love: Love was inspired by the Mustang's role in American pop culture and highlighted the idea of moving forward while leaving the past behind. Her design's emphasize the iconic horse as a symbol of power, strength and freedom.

Ford has revealed the limited-edition "Mustang Unleashed" look book, which you can find here. All of the t-shirts are made by Loomstate in the United States, using 100 percent organic cotton. William Wild has been mayor since 2007, just a year prior to the financial crisis.

Mayor Wild identified himself as a "hands-on" and 24/7 guy as mayor and looks to be the same as county executive. William Wild believes in accountability  and wants to make Wayne County a leader in the state and nation.

All-New Mustang Will Be First to Launch Ford SYNC® AppLink™

All-New Mustang Will Be First to Launch Ford SYNC® AppLink™
WESTLAND, Mich - The All-New Mustang Will Be First to Launch the Ford SYNC® AppLink™and will improve the in-vehicle smartphone experience for good. As the all-new Ford Mustang goes on sale later this year, it will be fully equipped with the next-generation Ford SYNC® AppLink™system. The Mustang will be the first model in North America to feature the new system that includes simpler menus, enhanced voice control, and plenty of other new capabilities.

As mentioned before, the Ford SYNC® AppLink™system is looking to enhance the in-vehicle app experience. Even more important, Ford wants to help drivers keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Some of the new functions that Mustang drivers can expect are:

  • Easier in-vehicle menus and controls which will allow drivers to launch apps on their mobile device more quickly by pressing the SYNC button on the steering wheel and saying the name of the app (and not "Mobile applications" first).
  • Apps can retrieve access to a selection of real-time vehicle data such as acceleration, speed, odometer, and location that can be used to customize the user experience. For instance, access to the in-vehicle GPS signal can make for more precise and accurate location-based services.
  • A more consistent user experience thanks to voice pass-through capability. This allows developers to use the on-device or cloud-based voice recognition system to evaluate commands given by the driver. Drivers are able to use the same set of voice commands to control the app when connected to the vehicle as they would when they are not connected.
  • Notifications will be read aloud to drivers as they come in. Alerts are available anytime a mobile device is connected to Ford SYNC® AppLink™, even if the app is not active at that time or if the driver is listening to the radio.
The 2015 is already the most technologically advanced version of its kind and the fact that it will be the first to launch Ford SYNC® AppLink™ is just another notch on the belt. If you are a Mustang lover, check out the selection we have at North Brothers Ford. We have a great variety of New Ford Cars to offer those in Novi and surrounding areas. North Brothers Ford is ready to help you find the perfect Ford vehicle that meets all of your driving needs.

Ford Uses New Training Program for 1,400 New Employees

WESTLAND, Mich. - Shortly after Ford announced that they will be hiring 3,000 new employees over the next couple of months, they released a statement saying that Ford will use a new training program for 1,400 new employees. This training program, currently being used at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Mich. will eventually become the standard way of training new hires.

At the Flat Rock Assembly Plant, they have recently hired 1,400 new employees to keep up with the demand for the Ford Fusion. As production kicks into overdrive, the factory will need these 1,400 new hires to be ready on the assembly line - that's where the new training program, a simulated factory, comes into play.

Ford is using this new training program for all 1,400 new employees and it's a huge success. This simulated factory allows new hires to become quickly acquainted with how the assembly line works. Many new hires have never seen, let along stepped foot on, an assembly line in action. This simulation let's them experience the assembly line without actually affecting the build of the Ford vehicles. The factory simulation lasts for about 5 days, where each employee rotates between 10 different stations over the course of an 8-hour shift. Each station teaches them something new - whether it's working on brake lines, installing radiator hoses, or similar tasks, the employees get to experience it all.

If you'd like to check out the Ford Fusion that is currently in high demand, stop by our Northville Area Ford Dealer today! We have a great selection of New Ford Cars and Certified Pre-Owned Cars For Sale, meaning we guarantee that you'll find something you love! 6 Tips to Clean and Detail Like a Pro

6 Tips to Clean and Detail Like a Pro
WESTLAND, Mich. - Living in Michigan, we get the full range of weather; hot summers to icy cold winters, our state has it all.  The annual hot and cold will take a toll on your vehicle - but while the weather is inevitable, the deterioration of your vehicle doesn't have to be. You can easily prevent wear and tear on your vehicle's exterior and interior by cleaning your car periodically.  Whether you take it to a professional, or prefer to do it yourself, we have 6 tips to clean and detail like a pro.

1. Starting with your carpets, use a stiff brush to work the material. These stiff brushes will work up any dirt or grime left in your seats and carpets, allowing you to easily vacuum it up. If you have leather seats, use a conditioner with aloe.

2. Have an air compressor? Perfect! Using the compressed air, spray your vents, nooks and crannies. Dirt and dust build up in your vents can cause your car to smell musty or dirty. By using your air compressor, you can preserve that new car smell!

3. Next step is cleaning your tires. It's recommended that you clean your wheels and tires before you clean and protect your car's paint, so make sure this is at the front of your detailing list! Make sure to avoid detergents on your wheels and tires as it can damage your tires, as well as damage your paint if splashed. The best solution to use is a degreaser.

4. If you want the best car wash, do it by hand. Using a soft sponge or washcloth, along with a car wash solution, you'll be able to wash away any dirt or grime. DO NOT use dishwashing detergent. This detergent strips away wax coatings and can eventually damage your paint. After you're done washing, use a rubber-blade squeegee to get the water off - this will prevent you from having spots.

5. Protect your paint with wax! Although wax will wear off after a few months, it absorbs stains and small scratches, protecting your paint. Pros will typically use two coats of wax to ensure that they don't miss a spot. You should wax your car once every season. There is no way to tell if the wax has worn off, so having a schedule will help you keep track.

6. Clean your glass last! Using a glass cleaner without ammonia, and a microfiber cloth if you have one, you will be able to easily wipe away grime and dirt - without streaks!

We hope the 6 tips to clean and detail like a pro have helped you. It's important to note that if you have a scratch in the paint that goes down to the metal, you should take it to a professional to have it buffed out. Your car can easily rust from this scratch, so stop by North Brothers today and let us help you out!

If all the cleaning in the world isn't giving your car that new car smell, maybe it's time for an upgrade! Stop by our Romulus Area Ford Dealership today and let us show you our great selection of New Ford Cars! We welcome the opportunity to try and get you the best deal, or assist you with an Auto Loan. Ford Creates Metal Prototypes in Hours Instead of Weeks

Ford Creates Metal Prototypes in Hours Instead of Weeks
WESTLAND, Mich. - Ford manufacturing has come a long way since its humble beginnings, as new technology now allows Ford to create metal prototypes in hours instead of weeks. Before, designers would sometimes have to wait weeks for the prototypes of new products; now, some pieces can be completed in a matter of 2-3 hours.

In Dearborn, MI, the Ford Research and Innovation Center has been inspired by the new 3-D printing practices that Ford has implemented into production. This first-of-its-kind technology, better known as the Ford Freeform Fabrication Technology (F3T), lowers cost and production times for prototypes.  Using F3T, Ford creates metal prototypes in hours instead of weeks by using this technology that functions somewhat like a printer.

Like a printer, it takes a file and uses this file to form the product. While a printer produces something through the use of layering, the F3T works a little differently.  This technology forms the sheet metal into the desired shape by clamping the sheet metal in place while a computer-controlled stylus moves over the sheet metal and presses where necessary.

This patented technology is allowing Ford to create prototypes at a much quicker rate, and will eventually make custom orders much easier. This could mean that custom-made orders will be more common on the road, as they will be cheaper and easier to produce.

We love that Ford is constantly coming up with new technology to make its vehicles more efficient and unique. If you're ready to check out what unique features Ford currently offers, stop by our Belleville Area Ford Dealership and let us help you into a New Ford Car or assist you with an Auto Loan. We love to help! North Brothers Ford, located at 33300 Ford Rd Westland, MI 48185, is proud to be one of the premier dealerships in Southeast Michigan committed to exceptional customer service! Stop by or give us a call at (888) 806-7163, our knowledgeable sales team will be happy to help!

To see for yourself how the F3T works, check out the Ford video at the bottom of this post.

Fourth of July Recipes That Are Sure To Amaze

Fourth of July Recipes That Will Amaze
WESTLAND, Mich. - 4th of July is tomorrow and we know that you want everything to be perfect at your celebration. That's why we have looked and found some amazing 4th of July inspired recipes that will amaze your family and friends.

First, we have a seven-layer dip that would be great for your guests to snack on. For this recipe, you'll need:

Fourth of July Recipes That Will Amaze
  1. 1 can (16 oz) of Refried Beans
  2. 1 tbsp. Taco Seasoning Mix
  3. 1 Cup Sour Cream
  4. 1 Cup Salsa
  5. 1 Cup Shredded Lettuce
  6. 1 Cup Shredded Four Cheese
  7. 4 Green Onions, Sliced
  8. 2 tbsp. Sliced Black Olives
This dish is super simple for having so many ingredient, and it's super delicious. Simply mix the taco seasoning mix in with the refried beans and spread onto the bottom of the plate you'll be using. We recommend using a pie plate or casserole dish, depending on how much you decide to make. After you have spread the beans, just layer each remaining ingredient. It's that simple! After it's layered, make sure to refrigerate until chilled and serve with chips.

Our second recipe is for dessert and is called Firecracker Bark! This is perfect for 4th of July and is sure to be something that everyone will love. You'll need:
Fourth of July Recipes That Will Amaze
  1. 22 Ounces White Chocolate Chips
  2. 4 Packets of Pop Rocks Candy (2 Strawberry, 2 Blue Raspberry)
  3. Wax/Parchment Paper
For this recipe, you'll need to melt the white chocolate and pour it onto your wax paper lined pan. Use a spatula to spread the chocolate out until the bark is as thin/thick as you'd like. Then, sprinkle the pop rocks on top and let cool for an hour. After it's cooled, you can break the bark into pieces and serve! It's delicious and each bite has a little spark!

Fourth of July Recipes That Will AmazeThe final recipe is a layered drink that is perfect for 4th of July festivities. While you can use whichever drinks you'd like, we used:
  1. 1 Bottle of SOBE Pina Coloda
  2. 1 G2 Blueberry Pomegranate
  3. One Gatorade Fruit Punch
The trick to making the layered drink is knowing the sugar content of each drink that you use. The drink with the highest sugar content goes first, as it will remain at the bottom. Then, you add the layers of drink by decreasing sugar content, meaning the drink with the lowest sugar content will be on top. The sugar is what makes the drink separate into layers. How Ford Protects You From Car Theft

How Ford Protects You From Car Theft
WESTLAND, Mich. - If you're a car thief, business is about to get really slow. Ford has created and installed various anti-theft technologies into its vehicles that make stealing a car extremely difficult. In fact, the FBI has recently released data that says the number of vehicles stolen is plummeting, thanks to new technology found in vehicles.

So how is Ford protecting you from car theft? One important technology that Ford has installed in your car is the SecuriCode Keyless Entry. SecuriCode Keyless Entry is a great technology that makes things easy and convenient for you and difficult for people with bad intentions. This technology allows you to avoid time spent fumbling and looking for keys, as you can just enter your programmed five-digit code into the driver's side keypad. Only the right code will send a signal to the wiring system in your engine, allowing the vehicle to start.

This is a great safety feature since it cuts the time that you are outside of your car trying to get in. Car thefts can happen in a moment's notice when you're fumbling for your keys, as your focus is not on your surroundings. The SecuriCode lets you quickly enter the code and hop in your vehicle, all the while keeping your attention on what's going on around you.

Now that you know just one of the many ways in which Ford protects you from car theft, it's important to know that there are still precautionary measures you should take. Even the most secure technology won't protect you or your car if you aren't cautious. Here are a few quick tips:

  1. NEVER leave your keys in the ignition. Even if you are just running into the store for a second, it only takes a second to jump in your car and drive off.
  2. Always lock your vehicle. Locking your Ford activates the lock security systems.
  3. Don't leave valuables in plain sight.  If your purse or laptop bag is clearly visible, the thief has more motivation to break into your vehicle.
  4. Trust your gut and use common sense. Always try to stay in well-lit areas and avoid parking behind dumpsters, large vehicles, or anything that could keep people nearby from spotting your car.
If you still don't feel safe, stop by our Romulus Area Ford Dealership today and we can discuss additional security features or alarm systems that are available for your vehicle. We also have a large selection of New Ford Cars or Certified Pre-Owned Cars For Sale with great safety features. North Brothers Ford, located at 33300 Ford Rd Westland, MI 48185, is proud to be one of the premier dealerships in Southeast Michigan committed to exceptional customer service! Evolution of the Liftgate

Evolution of the Liftgate

WESTLAND, Mich.- One of the latest impressive features to hit ford vehicles is the hands-free liftgate which opens and closes with just a gentle kicking motion under the bumper, no need to fumble with your key. The 2013 Ford Escape was the first in its segment to offer the motion-sensing power liftgate which can be adjusted manually to meet specific customer needs. This new feature is just one more example of how far Ford vehicles have come over the years which made us think about the Evolution of the Ford Motor Company Liftgate.

Let's first go back to 1929 when the Ford Model A featured the first flip-down tailgate. The Model A flip-down tailgate paved the way for future tailgate innovation, and today we're familiar with the flip-down style on the Ford F-150! Almost 25 years later, we got our first taste of convenience with the push-button option. The 1952 Ford Country Squire station wagon liftgate opened in the back with just the push of a button.

Evolution of the Liftgate
As the evolution of the lifgate began to progress more quickly, Ford Motor Company brought a little bit of magic to the vehicle rear with the 1966 Ford Fairlane and Falcon. The Ford Fairlane and Falcon wagon liftgate's both swung open and folded down. It was like magic! The swing open liftgate made its way to the iconic Ford Bronco which featured a rear-mounted spare tire that swung open to allow you to open the tailgate.

Evolution of the Liftgate

The two-part liftgate remained present on Ford SUVs like the Escape which featured liftgate in addition to a window hatch that allowed access to the rear via the back window. When we take a look at today's liftgate, the hands-free liftgate makes access easier than ever before! Come check out our New Ford Cars to experience the new Ford liftgate, or check out our Certified Pre-Owned Cars For Sale if you prefer an earlier liftgate style!
