Tips For Safe Grilling

WESTLAND, Mich. - Shorts, flip-flops, fireworks, parades and BBQ... I'm pretty sure summer is calling our names! Memorial Day Weekend has finally, FINALLY, arrived! If BBQ is in the plans this weekend you might want to freshen up on these tips for safe grilling. Yes, we know you're King of the Fire Pit but it's always good to just refresh on the basics before the kick off to the summer grilling season. You'll definitely thank us later!

1. Make sure your food is completely thawed out. Put frozen food in the fridge a few days before the BBQ to make sure that your food is thawed completely and safely. Making sure the meat, poultry or fish is completely thawed ensures it cooks evenly.

2. DO NOT LEAVE your grill unattended.  Simply put, lots of things can happen if you have to "run in the house for a quick sec". Make sure someone is within reach of the grill at all times.

3. All grills should be left outside. Don't bring your grill inside, just don't.

4. Keep away. Be sure to keep small children and pets away from the grill.

5. Clean up on aisle GRILL. Make sure to keep your grill clean by removing fat or grease buildup from the grills and in the trays below the grill.

6. Stay out of the woods! Well, you can grill in the woods, but make SURE that the grill should be placed far enough away from any wooden sources. These include the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.

7. Check the hose. If you are using a propane grill, before you use your grill for the first time each year, be sure it's in working order and ready to use. This includes checking the gas hose for any possible leaks. If you smell gas while cooking, step away from the grill and call 911, DO NOT try moving it.

2016 Ford Mustang GT with the California Special Package

WESTLAND, Mich. – To keep the Mustang model fresh, and to compete with the likes of the Dodge Challenger and the Chevy Camaro, Ford offers two new Mustang packages to its fans. Ford is now offering the California Special and the Pony Package as two, limited edition, packages which are exciting the passionate Mustang fan-base.

The California Special and the Pony Package, both pay homage to the start of the Mustang in the 1960s. Ford has been doing A LOT with this sixth generation model, including making the Ford Mustang a global vehicle for the first time in the history of Ford Motor Company; this new 50^th Anniversary Mustang is truly a world traveler.

Ford offers two new Mustang packages, the first, the Pony Package, is offered on the premium trim level of the fastback and upgrades the car with unique 19-inch polished aluminum wheels, a tri-bar pony logo on the grille, and side stripe with a chrome window surround sound. Future owners can order the California Special Package that has an extensive list of features including 19-inch ebony painted machined aluminum wheels, unique grille, door panel inserts and carpet, aluminum dashboard finish with California Special badge, hood and side stripes, a black spoiler, faux gas cap, black mirrors and hood vents as well as other touches.

Be sure your little buddy is always secure in some type of carrier that is properly attached to the vehicle. This will not only benefit the safety of your four-legged friend, but also will keep you free from distraction and harm as well. 

• Most importantly, and we are sure you've heard this time and time again – NEVER leave your pet alone in a vehicle! Even if you think the temperature outside is just right, whether it's cold or hot, the temperature in a vehicle can change in a matter of minutes, leading to serious health problems for our little friends.

• Just like us, it's critical to always make sure your four-legged friend is hydrated. Pack a frozen bowl of water for them to lick – no more messy water spills all over the car!

• If you know you have a long road trip ahead, take the time to walk or play with your pet beforehand. This will help them to get most of their energy out, resulting in a relaxing car ride for all. 

• Before any long trip, it's crucial to make sure your pet is up to date on all vaccines – preventing them from picking up any threats that could be lurking in the new environment. 

• Consider bringing along something your pet is familiar with like a special toy or blanket. Pets love the scent of something well known because it gives them a sense of comfort and content, helping to eliminate any fear they may have while riding in the car.

2015 Ford Mustang To Be The Star In "A Faster Horse"

WESTLAND, Mich. - This year the Ford Mustang, America's first pony car, celebrated its 50th Anniversary! Almost everyone has a "Mustang Story", and Ford is celebrating this momentous occasion, with the 2015 Ford Mustang to be the star in "A Faster Horse"! This is the first time cameras have been brought in to document the secrets behind the infamous American  muscle car.

Titled, "A Faster Horse", the documentary is directed by critically acclaimed director David Gelb, and looks behind the scenes of the development of the 50th Anniversary edition of the 2015 Mustang. Over the course of a year and a half, Gelb and his production team were given unprecedented access to Ford's secret engineering and testing facilities to get the real story behind this car. Ford Motor Company funded the project, however Gelb explains that he had full creative control of the final project which made its debut at this year's Tribeca Film Festival.

Chief Mustang Engineer Dave Pericak is featured throughout the documentary, which highlights his complete adoration of the Mustang brand. Gale Healdernman, the designer of the original Mustang is also featured, as are countless others who have played some part in the 50 year history of the Mustang. With Ford announcing that the 2015 Ford Mustang to be the star in "A Faster Horse",  it just demonstrates the country's own adoration for this muscle car, the original pony car.

10 Things You Should Keep In Your Car This Summer

WESTLAND, Mich. - Summer is, slowly, but surely making its way to the midwest and we COULD NOT be any more excited! Just like during the winter, there are some things you should always keep in your car during the warmer months, especially with families loading into their cars and hitting up the lake-house for a summer vacation. We searched and found 10 things you should keep in your car this summer that might come in handy if you ever find yourself in a pickle:

1. Disinfectant wipes: This one was pretty obvious, and is a must have for so many things that could happen in the vehicle. From picking up spills, dusting your dashboard, to cleaning dirt hands, these will definitely come in handy during your car trips this year!

2. Pen and paper: You never know that you need these until your franticly searching your car to write down a tow-truck number or directions.

3. Energy bars: These delicious snacks are high in calories, non-perishable, and high in protein which can hold you, or your tired kids, over until the tow truck arrives or Roadside Assistance comes to your aid while your stranded in a thunderstorm.

4. Bottled water: We feel like this is obvious, but you would be surprised! Keeping water available keeps you hydrated on unexpectedly long car rides. Remember to keep the bottles out of the sunlight, and replace the water every month to keep it fresh!

5. Maps: Yes we know your car has GPS, as does your phone, and probably your watch and your kids mobile game... HOWEVER in the event that you lose ALL GPS or mapping device power, remember to keep a U.S map, state map, and country map in your vehicle so, in the event of getting lost, you'll always be able to find your way home, or to the nearest drugstore to get a phone charger.

6. WD-40: Lug nuts can be loosened, door latches can be lubricated, and so much more can be done with a can of this iconic tool!

7. Duct tape: This is great for a quick temporary fix! It can hold your muffler in place, reattaching a side-view mirror or cleaning any dog hair that gets on your clothes.

8. Kitty litter: Didn't think you would see this on here did you? Kitty litter absorbs and eliminates odor, which is PERFECT to use quickly if a pet or child gets sicks in your car.

9. Utility knife: Having a knife, screwdriver, file and can opener, this multi-tool can handle a million different problems! You won't be sorry by splurging and getting one with scissors, pliers and even a magnifying glass... Trust us, you won't be sorry!

10. Matches: Keep a few matchboxes in a freezer bag so they'll stay dry. You never know when the situation will arise.

Ford and Detroit Symphony Orchestra Launch New Free Concert Series

WESTLAND, Mich - Ford Motor Company and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra are launching a new free concert series that will bring live music to the neighborhoods of Detroit. The series titled "DSO on the Go with Ford" will feature 10 free performances by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra throughout various locations around Detroit. The organizations are coming together to prove that classical music can be enjoyed just about anywhere! 

Ford Motor Company is continuing its longstanding commitment to Detroit cultural institutions by enhancing the communities where the company does business. Dating all the way back to the 1930s, Ford was the sponsor for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's live radio broadcasts. Now along with supporting the DSO's free Webcast series, Ford is taking on another initiative. Ford is working hand in hand with the cultural jewel and launching a new free concert series that will increase awareness of the amazing level of artistic and musical ability that lives within the local community. 

DSO on the Go with Ford will have performances on August 5th and 19th at the Ford Resource and Engagement Center (FREC). All additional concerts will be scheduled at a later date. FREC, which opened just last year, supports the rebuilding of Detroit neighborhoods by hosting a community gathering space for residents to acquire new talents, learn new skills and obtain needed services.

Ford EcoBoost® Police Interceptor Vehicle Dominates Competitors

WESTLAND, Mich - For the third year in a row, Los Angeles Sheriff Department tests the EcoBoost-all wheel-drive-equipped Ford Police Interceptor sedan and utility vehicles at the Fontana raceway in California. Both were the fastest in 0-100 mph acceleration testing and average lap times. The New Ford EcoBoost Police Interceptor dominates competitors, with the utility vehicle accelerating faster than all other base V6 sedans.

Not only is the third annual win a point of pride, but the results of the utility vehicle are remarkable for both the automotive industry and Ford. Police Interceptor utility represents a 60 percent increase of Ford police vehicle sales. With the performance levels achieved by the Police Interceptor sedan and utility vehicle, Ford is leading two major shifts in police vehicles since the newest introduction last year of the all-new Police Interceptor family. Since the launch, Ford Police Interceptor sedan sales increased by 34 percent in the 2013 calendar year. The utility sales are up a massive 142 percent.

The Ford Police Interceptor utility vehicle is only available with all-wheel drive and 88 percent of the sedan's volume is all-wheel drive. LASD tests show police agencies will not need to sacrifice performance for the added space and versatility the utility vehicle provides. The LASD and Michigan State Police tests earlier this year have shown that Ford's all-wheel drive improves handling, most importantly when in chase situations.

Ford Police Interceptor vehicles are getting the attention of agencies nationwide with the attractive ability to save law enforcement's money without compromising speed. The transition from traditional V8-equipped police vehicles to a powerful, more efficient Ford EcoBoost V6 vehicle makes this possible. Ford is continuing to offer law enforcement agencies alternative vehicle choices with the announcement in September of a new non-pursuit-rated, fuel-efficient 2.0-liter EcoBoost-equipped Special Service Police Sedan.
