Ford Surprises Houston Pastor with a New Expedition

WESTLAND, Mich.,–– Houston Pastor Develron Walker is a man of the community. He's used his position as a leader of the Towers of Hope Church of God in Christ to help deliver supplies and food to people in need, drive local children to school, and help shuttle churchgoers to services. Unfortunately, in wake of Hurricane Harvey, his church and full-size SUV were destroyed, and since then, he's been unable to help his community in their time of need. After hearing the story of Pastor Walker, Ford surprised the Houston pastor with a new Expedition to help him deliver supplies and continue his noble cause. Read on to learn more about Pastor Walker's struggle and how Ford came to his aid in a time of need.

Ford Surprises Houston Pastor with a New Expedition

After Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston and its local communities, Pastor Walker applied for government assistance and a small business loan to help rebuild his church and was denied both - but that never stopped him from helping those in need. Once Ford heard the pastor's story, they requested to have Walker speak at their new Kentucky Truck Plant to share his plight with the employees so they could provide assistance to help his cause. After touring the plant and telling his story to the workers, the employees presented him with a new 2018 Ford Expedition to help him make a difference within his community. Watch the video below to see the reveal for yourself!

Ford chose the Expedition due to its ability to seat up to eight people and its ample cargo space to help the pastor in his daily endeavors. When the second and third rows of seating are folded, the Expedition can fit up to four 4x8-foot sheets of plywood that could be used to rebuild his church. The Expedition is also equipped with a Best-In-Class towing of up to 9,300 lbs., giving Walker and his staff the ability to move large quantities of supplies to those in need with little to no effort.

“Even while facing extremely tough circumstances, Pastor Walker has shown his relentless commitment to helping those in his community, and we hope the Expedition will help him go further with his ministry as they rebuild,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president, Global Operations, who presented the pastor with his new vehicle.

Recognizing the needs of Develron Walker and his community, Ford surprised the Houston pastor with a new Expedition. Ford Fund Responds to Natural Disasters

WESTLAND, Mich.,–– Throughout the month of September, the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands were struck by a series of natural disasters. At the beginning of the month, Mexico was struck with two powerful earthquakes, which damaged important infrastructure throughout the southern part of the country. Later in September, Hurricane Maria severely damaged Puerto Rico with category 4 winds, knocking out power to the entire country. In light of these events, the Ford Fund responded to the natural disasters with efforts to provide disaster relief to those affected by these tragic events.

Ford Fund Responds to Natural Disasters

Working directly with Ford Mexico and the Dealers Civic Committee, the Ford Fund quickly contributed $200,000 to the United Way of Mexico's Earthquake Relief Fund. They also promised to match employee donations to the Mexico Earthquake Relief Fund by up to $50,000. This relief fund will provide food, shelter, water, and medicine to those affected by the disaster, and will also go towards supporting long-term assistance to help communities rebuild and recover.

The Ford Fund will also be contributing $100,000 in donations to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Local Ford dealers will also match the Ford Fund's donation by contributing an additional $100,000. This combined donation will be distributed through a wide variety of nonprofits based on the current needs of those affected by the disaster. Additionally, Ford is continuing to match donations to the American Red Cross by up to $300,000 for those affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. Currently, Ford employees alone have donated over $1 million and are continuing to raise funds in solidarity.

Ford Provides Aid to Victims of Hurricane Harvey

WESTLAND, Mich.,–– In wake of Hurricane Harvey's damage to Houston and the surrounding areas, Ford and its dealers have all made a commitment to assist the victims of this disaster. By donating over $3.5 million in hurricane relief and contributing to the "Texas is Family" initiative, Ford provides aid to victims of Hurricane Harvey. A portion of the money raised between Ford and its dealers will be donated to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, Team Rubicon, Toolbank, and Catholic Charities, and will provide four Chariot Transit Vans that will support future efforts in the area.

In the Texas area, Ford dealers have donated over $200,000 to the Cowboys-Texans telethon and have made a commitment to donating over $1 million to help dealership families and local charities. Nationally, Ford has promised to match this donation total by contributing up to $1.5 million to community relief foundations. Ford's dealers, both in Texas and throughout the United States, have dedicated their efforts towards raising additional funds to help reach their donation goal of $1 million.

Ford Provides Aid to Victims of Hurricane Harvey

“Our hearts go out to all of those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Texas is like family for Ford,” said Jim Hackett, Ford president and CEO. “Our teams are working day and night to help our customers, dealers and communities get back on their feet.”

The "Texas is Family" initiative is a customer assistance bundle Ford will be providing to victims of Hurricane Harvey. People affected by the hurricane receive a no-haggle, below-invoice price typically given to employees and families of Ford, a low credit APR or lease rate, and won't have to make any payments until next year. The Texas is Family program also allows existing customers to defer their payments for up to two months, and first responders in the area are eligible to receive a special $1,000 discount in addition to any available incentives.

Currently, 101 of Ford's 114 dealerships in the Houston region are open. 13 of them have been closed and 10 (some open and some closed) have sustained severe damage. You can help Ford provide aid to victims of Hurricane Harvey by donating to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. Families and businesses all across Michigan and the United States have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to assist victims of this disaster, and you can help too! We at North Brothers Ford are dedicated to impacting our community, whether it's locally or nationally.
