New 2018 F-150 Engines Will Offer Best In-Class Performance

Power Vehicle Dependability Study award!

The Vehicle Dependability Study is run by J.D. Power each year based on reports from original owners of 3-year-old vehicles.

"This study measures car reliability by analyzing problems experienced over the past 12 months of ownership in such areas as: features and controls; engine and transmission;entertainment and navigation; heating and cooling; the overall driving experience, and more."

The 2014 Ford F-150 scored a 3/5 in Powertrain Dependability, and 5/5 in Feature and Accessory Dependability, Body and Interior Dependability, and Overall Dependability. The 2014 Ford F-150 comes available in three cab styles, 11 different trims, and four engine options, which means there's a F-150 for any need. Better Fuel Economy is Just an F-150 Away

Although there are numerous ways to decorate for fall, our final tip is to hang heavier drapery and curtains. This tip is actually a practical one since heavier fabrics will help keep the cold out of your house –– something that will help cut costs when it comes to heating your home. Get Lost in Ohio’s Ford F-150-Themed Corn Maze This Fall

WESTLAND, Mich. –– There’s no question that fall is the favorite season of our Ford dealer near South Lyon, MI, but this year we might just have to head down to Ohio to immerse ourselves in a truly unforgettable autumn experience you can’t find anywhere else.

If you thought you were a Ford fanatic, check out Leaders Farms’ Ford F-150-themed corn maze this fall in Napolean, Ohio. The maze, which resembles the most recent edition of Ford’s half-ton pickup, was carved out of a seven-acre cornfield, and it looks just as tough as the pickup it was inspired by.

“We are a multi-generation Ford-driving family,” said Kristin Leaders of Leaders Farms, so it makes sense why her and her husband decided to use the F-150 as the theme for their corn maze this fall. Last winter, her husband Brad was reading a magazine when he first saw the new F-150. He fell in love with the truck and decided it would make the perfect theme for their corn maze this year.

Of course, creating the F-150 image in the cornfield wasn’t as simple as driving a tractor. Managing a corn maze demands year-round planning, designing, and maintenance. In order to successfully portray the pickup, the Leaders had to use GPS technology to create the shape.

If you decide to make the trip down to Leaders Farms, you can get lost in the Ford–F-150–themed corn maze this fall, but you’ll also have the opportunity to experience the power of Big Jack, a gigantic pumpkin cannon mounted to the chassis of a restored Ford F-450 Super Duty. Other fun activities include checking out the farm’s 13 goats, 40 cows, and Scout, the barnyard dog.

Military Members Take Ford Vehicles for a Spin

WESTLAND, Mich.­– There are many creative ways we can support our troops, but the best idea we’ve seen yet was letting American military members take Ford vehicles for a spin at the Ford Driving Freedom ride-and-drive event in Germany.

At Ford Driving Freedom, Ford handed over Mustang and F-150 keys to troops who are stationed across Europe and let them burn some rubber at Hockenheimring, the German Grand Prix track. The test-drive event gave military members a break from their day-to-day routine, but was still something exciting and invigorating to fit their appetite for the extreme.

By having military members take Ford vehicles for a spin at a central location like Hockenheimring, Ford was able to extend the event to troops stationed in many different areas of Europe. Military members weren’t the only ones to benefit from the occasion. The event provided Ford a rare opportunity to show off two of its most popular cars to men and women stationed overseas.

Overseas Military Sales Corporation– the only on-base, factory-authorized Ford Motor Company distributor to military personnel– also got in on the action by hosting a contest that generated 125 winners out of 300 entrants. The contest was another way Ford found to boost morale for U.S. military members who are away from their friends and family back home.

Ford has a close relationship with military members that started long before this event was put on. In 2014, the F-150 was the highest-selling vehicle to military members, and Overseas Military Sales Corporation was the world’s leading Mustang retailer. No wonder the Ford Driving Freedom event had such a wonderful turnout!

The Ford Driving Freedom event was a test-drive in itself, used by Ford to gauge how effective similar future events might be. 2015 Ford F-150's New Aluminum Body

WESTLAND, Mich.—The 2015 Ford F-150 is an industry first, with its body made of high-strength aluminum alloy, rather than the steel that had previously been used. But what does the 2015 Ford F-150’s new aluminum body mean for you, the driver? 

Ford has reported that they managed to reduce the weight of the F-150 by 700 pounds as a result of the switch to aluminum, thus increasing fuel economy by 20%. The lighter vehicle also has better handling, faster acceleration, and greater towing and payload capacities than its steel-bodied predecessor. 

While it has many benefits over steel, aluminum is also much different to work with than steel. The change in material allows for such a dramatic reduction in weight because aluminum is much less dense than steel. This also means that repairs to the aluminum require special tools and training that not all repair shops have. In response to the need for these new repair services, Ford has trained over 750 dealerships nationwide to be certified in repairing the 2015 Ford F-150’s new aluminum body.

Consumer Reports recently analyzed the cost difference between repairing a 2015 Ford F-150 and the previous year’s model, which has a steel body. They found that repair costs are roughly equivalent at dealerships that are Ford certified to do the repairs. Costs may be higher at repair shops that are not certified, as they may not have the training and tools necessary to complete the job quickly. Lima Engine Plant Receives $500 Million Investment from Ford

WESTLAND, Mich - The Lima Engine Plant Receives a $500 Million Investment from Ford Motor Company, which will be put to good use for plant updates and the additional 300 new jobs that will be created to help with production of the all-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost® for the 2015 Ford F-150. Since 2010, the new EcoBoost engine's demand has grown over 600 percent; the F-150 can be credited for 91 percent of this growth. As Ford customers continue to demand the EcoBoost engines, the Ohio Plant engineers will work hard to meet their needs. The Lima Engine Plant is ready to put production for the latest and most technologically advanced engine in full force. 

Currently, the Lima Engine Plant produces 3.5-liter and 3.7-liter Duratec® V6 engines for various Ford vehicles -this includes the Edge and Explorer utilities, the Lincoln MKZ crossover, MKT utility and MKZ sedan.  The $500 million investment will be used to add a flexible engine assembly system as well as to renovate 700,000 square feet of the plant for the addition of other machining and assembly functions. For the past 60 years, Lima Engine has helped keep Ford and Lincoln vehicles running strong. Adding the production of the 2.7-liter to the Ohio facility will make for a solid future for both Ford Motor Company and the engineers.

Customers will get a complete package of power and performance in their F-150 thanks to the 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine. This EcoBoost uses standard Auto Start-Stop technology that will improve the F-150's performance and overall efficiency. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost also has some fine tuning; specialized elements specifically for truck customers. When drivers are towing or using the four-wheel-drive mode, the Auto Start-Stop turns off the engine automatically when the vehicle is at a stop. The engine then restarts immediately as the driver releases the brake. From a performance standpoint, the engine's compacted graphite iron and aluminum engine block reduces weight and strengthens the truck where it is most necessary.

Ford's F-150 Making Shift to Aluminum

WESTLAND, Mich - Ford Motor Company is spicing up the 37-year winning F-150 by making a shift to aluminum. The new F-150 will be replacing about 1,000 pounds of steel with 600 pounds of aluminum. This switch will get rid of that 750 pound chunk that will improve fuel economy. 

This change will allow the new truck to get about 30 miles per gallon, a huge up from the 17 to 19 mpg that the current models get. With the F-150 being the best selling pickup for 37-years straight and the best-selling U.S. vehicle of any kind for more than three decades, a lot is riding on this drastic change that Ford is making. 

Other automakers are going to have to shift to greater use of aluminum in heavier vehicles if they are going to meet the strict new fuel economy regulations. These standards require that manufacturers to have 54.5 mpg average for all the vehicles they sell by the 2025 model year.
