WESTLAND, Mich. – Large American corporations have received
plenty of flak over the years for unabashedly moving their production overseas
or across the border to Mexico, and Ford has followed suit in some ways.
However, it makes us proud to hear news that Ford F-650 and F-750 production will create
1,000 jobs for Ohio now that the automaker has moved manufacturing of its
medium-duty trucks from south of the border to Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon
Lake, Ohio.
America’s best-selling commercial trucks for the last 30
years rolled off the line for the first time in the United States on August 12,
2015. Their production is the impetus for over 1,000 hourly UAW jobs and a U.S.
plant investment of $168 million. Ford also furnished the plant with new body
shop equipment and necessary tooling for Ford
F-650 and F-750 production that will create 1,000 jobs for Ohio.
The F-650 and F-750 are available in Regular Cab, SuperCab,
and Crew Cab body styles and in straight-frame, dock-height, and a tractor
model good for heavy towing. Both trucks also contain a diesel engine and
transmission combination designed and built by Ford, something no other truck
manufacturer accomplishes on its own.
Ford is also the only automaker to make available a
gasoline-powered engine for its pickups in the medium-duty truck segment. In
addition, the F-650 and F-750 have a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine
option, and a 6.8-liter V10 option with 320 horsepower and 460 pounds per feet
of torque.
