Ford Focus' Double-Digit Growth Improves Lead as Best-Selling Vehicle Nameplate

WESTLAND, Mich - Ford Focus' Double-Digit Growth Improves Lead as Best-Selling Vehicle Nameplate in the world, according to the latest Polk global vehicle data for January to September 2013. The Ford Focus has had more than a 16 percent year-over-year registration growth, increasing its lead over its next competitor by 75,000.

With this large growth in China, the Ford Focus remains the best-selling vehicle nameplate in the world. Global registrations for the Focus grew to 856,587 from January to September of 2013. China was the biggest contributor to the success with 303,481 registrations. This brought an 85 percent year-over-year- increase, according to Polk.

The Focus' sleek style exterior and level of equipment are two key reasons for customer's purchases. In China, the vehicle's design, safety, and quality are the top components that separate cars from one another. Ford scored 15 to 40 percent higher on each of these components than the closet competitor.

Ford Focus' Double-Digit Growth Improves Lead as Best-Selling Vehicle Nameplate now gives Ford Motor Company two of the top five best-selling vehicle nameplates in the world. The Focus and Fiesta together have a total of 1,402,555 vehicle registrations that have been accumulated from January through September of 2013.

5 Tire Safety Tips

WESTLAND, Mich. - With the holiday weekend rapidly approaching, millions of drivers across the country will be getting ready to take their car on the road. First, invest in a tire gauge. For only a couple of dollars, you can rest easy that your tires are always properly inflated and being properly maintained. Tires that are inflated to their ideal pressure not only are better for your car, but also more fuel efficient! To find out your cars perfect pressure, check your owner's manual.

Second, be aware of the tread on your tires. There is a simple test you can perform to test the tread, called the penny test. Simply take a penny and put it in the tread of your tire with Abraham Lincoln's
head facing down. If you can see the top of his head, your tires need to be replaced.

A third tip is that you should regularly rotate your tires. Every 6,000-8,000 miles, rotate your tires to make sure they're wearing evenly. Depending on how your vehicle drives, some tires may become worn more quickly than the rest - by rotating your tires, you ensure that the wear is equal.

Continuing with the importance of monitoring the wear on your tires, replace your rear tires first. If for whatever reason you can only purchase 2 new tires, those tires should be put on the rear. Your rear tires provide the most stability and prevent your car from fishtailing - so replace those first!

Our final tip is to be aware of your driving habits. Your driving habits play a huge role in the life of your tires. If you drive aggressively at high speeds, or frequently come to a hard stop, your tires are going to wear more quickly. Also make sure to avoid hitting curbs, or going over potholes.

YouGov asked around 5,000 Americans their opinion on 1,100 of the country's biggest brands. The participants were asked if they had heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, through advertising, news or word of mouth, and if what they heard was positive or negative. They were asked to rank what they heard about each brand on a scale ranging from -100 (extremely negative) to +100 (extremely positive). A score of zero is neutral. Ford's average score among YouGov survey respondents was 31.

Ford Motor Company is the top brand in America and is the only automaker to break the top ten. According to YouGov, the fact that Ford refused a government bailout during the Great Recession also made it a favorite among consumers.

This past weekend the automaker debuted the Ford Escort compact concept vehicle! Ford's most popular vehicle name behind the F-series pickup, the Escort, made its official debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in China.

Unconvinced that the needs of the market were being completely met by the current vehicle offerings, Ford has taken the first step to bring back an updated Escort. Based on the Ford Focus chassis, The Ford Escort concept car is stretched a little to achieve a more spacious interior. But the Escort concept aims to be more affordable than its original replacement, the Ford Focus.With a more upright roofline, the concept is stylish while still appealing to Chinese tastes. Designed for the Chinese market, it is significant that the jewel-like headlights on the concept resemble the Chinese character for the number 8 which is considered lucky as a portent of wealth.

The Ford Escort Concept that Debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show will be the automaker's third compact sedan. While it may seem excessive, it works well in a country like China where the country's wealth levels vary widely. Plus, compact cars make up 60% of the new vehicle market in China. However, the Escort is still just a concept. It's unknown whether the car will ever be built even though it's close to a production model. Even so, if the vehicle is produced, it it will likely stay in China since it was designed specifically for the Chinese market.
