Ford Returns to Detroit: Moving Ford Team Edison

WESTLAND, Mich.,–– Ford is making its return to downtown Detroit with its purchase of a refurbished former factory in Corktown and the movement of Ford Team Edison, the company’s electric vehicle organization, to that location. This location will help Ford focus on crafting its first self-driving car and on accelerating hybrid options for different models such as the F-150 and Mustang.

“Moving our teams to Corktown will further enhance our electric and autonomous vehicle development,” Ford Autonomous Vehicles and Electrification Vice President Sherif Marakby stated. “It gives our teams the workspace they need to promote collaboration and big thinking, and an urban setting that delivers crucial insight for both programs.”

The Corktown location will serve to accelerate Ford’s $11.8 billion investment in global electric vehicles to deliver different electrified cars such as the 2020 Mustang-inspired-battery-electric SUV. Ford has other plans to deliver various hybrid options for other different models. These include the Explorer, F-150, Mustang, Bronco, and Escape.

These new electrified models of Ford’s vehicle brands will enhance the performance, convenience, and capabilities of their vehicles. The F-150, for example, will feature different capabilities such as its onboard electric generator, which will achieve better mileage without sacrificing the performance of the vehicle.

Ford will push harder on the development of its battery-electric vehicle program with 40 different electrified vehicles becoming available globally by 2020. This includes 16 different full battery-electric cars. Ford’s ultimate goal is to make charging of vehicles more seamless and convenient while implementing the full-vehicle over-the-air software that can enhance capability and distinctive features.

At Ford Edison, the company’s future will be devoted to self-driving vehicle expertise. The company will realize this through the use of the artificial intelligence experience and robotics of Argo AI. Their work in Corktown will complement such efforts. There are other factors Ford will pay attention to as well.

Ford also seeks to provide dependable safety features, improved durability throughout urban environments, and a lower ownership cost via commercial-grade quality. The company’s hybrid-electric powertrain is geared toward achieving maximum mileage and a reduction of emissions in keeping the vehicle on the road for as long as possible.

“Our team has been researching self-driving technology for more than a decade, and when it came time to build out the business surrounding it, we put the customer at the center of our thinking,” Ford Motor Company Global Markets Executive Vice President and President Jim Farley said. “From the beginning, this drove the development of our production vehicle and technology.”

Farley added that this means a change in how Ford focuses on the vehicle types they are producing.

“What this means is we’re designing an all-new vehicle optimized for self-driving technology and the customers it will serve,” Farley stated. “We feel this optimization across the vehicle, technology, and customer experience will differentiate our business as we begin to serve leading companies, such as Lyft, in the movement of people and goods.”

Ford Creates 800 Jobs, Invests $350 Million in Livonia Plant

WESTLAND, Mich.,–– In an effort to protect its core business, Ford has begun investing in its transmission plant in Livonia, Michigan. The push to increase fuel-efficient vehicles and build upon the job market in America has allowed Ford to create 800 jobs and invest $350 million in a plant. New investments in Michigan are expected to continue as time goes on, with this most recent investment in Livonia being one of the largest.

The jobs will come into effect by the end of the year, with the vast majority of them taking place through 2019.

“We remain committed to American manufacturing and investing in our people and facilities,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president, The Americas. “Even as the industry’s largest employer of hourly workers in the United States and biggest producer of American-made vehicles, we believe it is important to continue investing right here in our home market.”

The new plant will be producing new, innovative transmission systems for front-wheel drive vehicles. This will allow EcoBoost to be implemented in larger vehicles like the F-150, which will increase gas mileage for those respective vehicles. Partnering with UAW, the additions to the plant will create jobs for 800 new employees. This will greatly increase the size of the plant, which already houses 1,800 employees.

2015 F-150 Tests at Bald Mountain Gold Mine

WESTLAND, Mich - Ford Motor Company's first aluminum-bodied 2015 F-150 Tests at the Bald Mountain Gold Mine in Elko, Nevada to see if it can handle some torture trail runs from one of its most demanding customers, the mining industry. Bald Mountain, owned and operated by Barrick Gold Corporation, is an open-pit, heap leach gold mine located in the Southern Ruby Mountains of northwest Nevada. The site is frequently used to experiment with Ford's latest F-150 trucks; in fact, Bald Mountain will be responsible for roughly 200,000 of the 10 million miles of testing done on the 2015 F-150 before it rolls off the assembly line.

Remember when you see the all-new 2015 F-150 on the road this fall, if it can handle the mining industry, it can handle anything. You can see footage of the 2015 F-150 Testing at Bald Mountain Gold Mine here:

New Ford F-150 First Truck to Offer LED Headlamps

WESTLAND, Mich - The New Ford F-150 is the First Truck to Offer LED Headlamps that are brighter, tougher and more efficient than any other pickup headlamp. Typically, headlamps need to be replaced way before the end of the vehicle's life. Ford is doing away with old habits with the creation of the very first LED headlamps on the all-new F-150 that will last as long, or longer, than the truck itself.
New Ford F-150 First Truck to Offer LED Headlamps
Ford's latest innovation is the first for light-duty pickup trucks. It uses 63 percent less energy than the usual halogen bulbs that we see in competitor's trucks. These headlamps have been developed from an outstanding form of technology, that makes the quality, durability and aesthetics of the headlamps superior to all other pickups on the road. You can literally stand -that's right we said STAND- on one of these 11-pound headlamps and the lens will not budge. These LED headlamps have been exposed to extreme heat, served as a bullseye for rocks, stones and ice as well as spent some time soaking in salt water. What were the effects? Absolutely nothing.

LED happens to be the fastest-growing segment in lighting technology. We see it in our smartphones, TVs, tablets and other recreational products are used on a regular basis. The LED headlamps on the all-new F-150 use a simpler form of technology, which makes for a longer-lasting, more durable product. The design of the headlamp magnifies light and better illuminates the road for F-150 drivers. The New Ford F-150 is the First Truck to Offer LED Headlamps and the company expects this trend to grow into "the next big thing" in the auto industry.

At North Brothers Ford, we proudly offer the latest and greatest Ford vehicles. You can see our entire inventory of new Ford cars, trucks, SUVs and crossovers online! See something you like? Ford F-150 Named the Most American Car of 2013

Ford F-150 Named the Most American Car of 2013
WESTLAND, Mich. - After being named the best light-duty pickup truck last week, the Ford F-150 has now been named the most American car of 2013 by Cars.com! While we've always believed that nothing says American more than a Ford pickup truck, it's now a unanimously agreed upon title.

Ford F-150: The Most American Car of 2013 has a nice ring to it, and apparently Cars.com agreed! Every year the website compiles a list of the Most American vehicles by taking into account the amount of American made parts used on the vehicle, where the vehicle is assembled, and how many are sold per year.

On the website, Cars.com notes that the amount of American made parts in the Ford F-150 hasn't changed (75% of the parts are made in the U.S), but there has been an increase in vehicles sold; this is what bumped the pickup truck up to number one. The Ford F-150 U.S. assembly locations are Dearborn, MI and Claycomo, MO.

If you'd like to own the most American vehicle on the market, stop by our Plymouth Area Ford Dealership today and check it out! 2013 Ford F-150 is Best Light-Duty Pickup Truck

2013 Ford F-150 is Best Light-Duty Pickup Truck
WESTLAND, Mich. - The 2013 Ford F-150 has been named the best light-duty pickup truck on the market by PickupTrucks.com and Popular Mechanics Magazine.  Facing off against five other competing pickup trucks, the Ford F-150 proved itself to be a head above the rest in capability and performance.

The 2013 Ford F-150 was named the best light-duty pickup truck, but the title wasn't one that was handed over easily.  The pickup trucks were pushed to the limit as they were rigorously tested for acceleration, braking, fuel economy and more.  Out of the 13 tests that competitors were subjected to, the Ford F-150 took first or second place in 11 of them, which made the vehicle stand apart as a true champion.  Mark Williams, editor of PickupTrucks.com was quoted as saying, "If this were the Olympics, there would be a new Ford F-150 on a cereal box."

While the pickup truck won't be found on a box of Wheaties, it will continue to be the best pickup truck in America. For 36 consecutive years the Ford F-150 has been the best-selling truck in the country, and  for 31 years, the best-selling vehicle.  It is also the brand with the most trucks on the road with 250,000 miles or more - but with a vehicle whose slogan is "Built Ford Tough", you wouldn't expect anything less!

If you'd like to test the durability of the Ford F-150 for yourself, stop by our Plymouth Area Ford Dealership today and check it out!
