Summer Family Fun: Making The Most of Family Time During The Summer

Summer Family Fun: Making The Most of Family Time During The Summer

WESTLAND, Mich.,–– Summer can offer a lot of fun activities to do while school is out and there is more time to spend with the family. It’s a great time to do some traveling or to get outside and playing some sports. You may even have some movies you are excited to see that are coming out soon at the movie theater. With all the possibilities for fun during the summer months, there are many activities to involve your friends or, perhaps, your family in. Family time is so important and with the summer in full swing, we recommend taking some time to begin planning out your activities for the upcoming months. For ideas on what to do this summer, continue reading our blog.

Summer Family Fun: Making The Most of Family Time During The Summer

1.) Traveling:

We’ve all seen the Vacation movies with Chevy Chase. Going on trips when all members of the family are free is something can set up some fun experiences. Your choice of destinations could vary from Chicago to Traverse City. It is completely possible you may be going to somewhere smaller like Grand Haven or Kalamazoo. Whether big or small, your travels will bring a great deal of happiness to you. Traveling in a vehicle or flying somewhere could give you memories of simply getting to the location you are seeking to go to. You might have a television within your car and are watching a great movie. You may have hooked up your video game system and are playing a race game against one another. You could be playing cards or a board game too. What matters is that you are together with them. Once you get there, you will make even more fun times to photograph and remember in a scrapbook. This is your chance to truly make the summer count where it matters. Go travel somewhere with your loved ones and have a great experience.

2.) Sports:

One of the greatest enjoyable moments a family can experience is playing some sports outside. Once your children are old enough, they will be able to play a variety of different sports. With many different sports to choose from, there may be some that are better for you because of the size of your family versus some that could be better if you have a smaller family. You may be playing football or soccer. You might even be waterskiing or tubing. After choosing the sport, the experience will simply be playing it outside with your loved ones. While some might win and others could lose, it’s simply remembering how fun such a thing can be together. There’s no telling what the future holds when you are building trust and teamwork within the realms of your family.

3.) Going to The Movies:

It’s hot out. Who wants to go to the movies, right? Well, on some days during the summertime, it will inevitably rain or it may be a tad bit colder on some nights than it normally is. In these cases, having an alternative to some of the traditional activities could be really helpful. In the movie world, summer is known as "blockbuster season". It’s the time when all the big and crazy movies come out. This summer, you have films like Incredibles 2 and Show Dogs or Hotel Transylvania 3 and Teen Titans Go! to the Movies. For you and your family, that means the opportunity to see huge spectacles on the big screen as well as buy a big soda, a giant thing of popcorn, or some candy. It also can lead you to form bonds with your family you choose to go with. It could be with the whole family or only your siblings. You may never know exactly what happens. However, the simple experience of being together is what matters in the end.

4.) Playing Video Games:

This is another case of when the weather is not as great as it could be. This is when you might consider seeing who can defeat one another in a video game. Such games encourage teamwork and competition. It could bring out your wanting to win and be the best. It might help you to overcome barriers in your family by making two people work together, in order to succeed. It’s chances like this that truly make times memorable.

Family time in any of these activities would not be possible unless you had a motor vehicle. That’s why it may be time for you to check out various new models that are out there. At North Brothers Ford, we have any number of models that are designed to suit your needs. With a family, it can be tough to fit every single person in some smaller models. Ford Detroit: Automaker Purchases Old Train Station

Ford Detroit

WESTLAND, Mich. – If you are a Detroiter, you are well aware that the old Detroit train station in Corktown has been left abandoned for a very long time. It has remained decrepit and none of it has been renovated whatsoever. Outside of being used as a filming location in films like “Transformers,” it has remained a distant memory of what Detroit used to be. With so much history, those driving along Michigan Avenue have long wondered why nothing has been done to rehab what was once a stunning building. With Ford Motor Company looking to open operations once again in the city of Detroit, the automaker has seized upon the chance to not only make a big imprint on Detroit but also make old train station an inhabitable area once more.

During the week in which Ford celebrated its 115th anniversary, the automaker announced the acquisition of the Michigan Central Station. The purpose of Ford’s new Corktown campus will be to focus on the electric and autonomous vehicles as well as create sophisticated urban mobility solutions and services including public transit, parking, roads, and connected vehicles. Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford said the acquisition of the Michigan Central Station means something more to him.

“Michigan Central Station is a place that in many ways tells the story of Detroit over the past century,” Ford said. “We at Ford want to help write the next chapter, working together in Corktown with the best startups, the smartest talent, and the thinkers, engineers, and problem-solvers who see things differently – all to shape the future of mobility and transportation.”

Ford’s plan is to have around 1.2 million square feet of space in Corktown. About three-quarters of which will be split between the company and its different partners in business. Around 2,500 Ford employees, the majority from the company’s mobility team, will be moving into Corktown by 2022. There will be further space to allow for around 2,500 additional employees from different businesses and other partners. What remains of the 300,000 square feet will be used for the attraction of local shops and restaurants, plans for new residential options, and the restoration of the grand hall back to its original shape. Ford President and CEO Jim Hackett said he sees Corktown as representing the future of the information age for Ford.

“What Rouge was to Ford in the industrial age, Corktown can be for Ford in the information age,” Hackett said. “It will be the proving ground where Ford and our partners design and test the services and solutions for the way people are going to live and get around tomorrow, creating a Southeast Michigan mobility corridor that spans west from Dearborn to Ann Arbor, and east to Detroit.” Hackett believes this also could turn Detroit into the “mobility capital of the world.”

“This will be the kind of campus where the emerging economy thrives – a collaborative ecosystem of companies, educators, investors, and innovators,” Hackett said. “This is where part of our team will live and work as a part of this community, alongside the customers and neighbors whose lives we’re trying to make better.” To Ford, Corktown draws him back to his Irish roots of where his family first came from.

“Just as Dearborn does, Corktown holds a special place in my heart,” Ford said. “Henry Ford was the son of an immigrant. His father, William Ford, came over from Cork during Ireland’s potato famine. And Corktown was a destination for immigrants like him who came here with little more than hope. It was a place where you could reimagine what’s possible. That’s what we want to do all over again, right here in Corktown – to build tomorrow, together.”

As Ford takes their next steps toward a bright future, you might wish to purchase a new Ford vehicle for yourself. Imagine yourself driving down Michigan Avenue from Dearborn into downtown Detroit as you pass by the train station. It's an exciting time to be in Detroit and that means it's time for you to purchase a new Ford car. There are many great models, which North Brothers Ford can assist with. We will help you discover what it means to be a Detroiter all over again.

Ford Remembers The Eagle Squadrons of World War II With Custom Car Tribute

eagle squadrons

WESTLAND, Mich. – For many of us, World War II is an event that is part of a history that was long before any of us were born. It is something we read about in books or learn about in school. We never lived or experienced the events of the Pearl Harbor bombing in Hawaii or D-Day in France. These events did not shape or define our lives as they did for the generation that went through them. For those who lived through these events and fought in this war, their lives were not only shaped by these events but defined so deeply by them too. Many of those people still exist today and remember first-hand what it was like to go through these experiences. It is why Ford Motor Company has decided to pay tribute to the brave American fighter pilots who were part of the Royal Air Force during World War II.

These men were in squadrons that flew over Goodwood in the United Kingdom (UK) around 80 years ago during a war that changed the course of human history. Three Eagle Squadrons fought throughout the skies over northern Europe including France and the British coast with US volunteer pilots as some of those taking part. 2018 is the 20th year Ford has sponsored The Gathering during the EAA AirVenture. This year, alongside Vaughn Gittin Jr., a world champion drifter, Ford will be paying tribute to these heroes. This tribute will involve Gittin taking control of the one-off Eagle Squadron Mustang GT at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK on July 12. This vehicle, co-created by Gittin’s RTR Vehicles and Ford Performance, it is a Mustang GT, whose design is inspired by the fighter-aircraft in all of its camouflaged glory. It will eventually head back to The Gathering during the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh fly-in. This event, held on July 26, is in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, draws over 1,000 aviation enthusiasts every year. The vehicle will be auctioned off at The Gathering to help fund EAA’s education programs for youth. Ford has donated 11 custom-designed vehicles and helped garner over $3 million for the programs.

“Supporting young pilots through the EAA charity auction reflects Ford’s aviation history, tracing back to the company’s early days and the Arsenal of Democracy during WWII,” Ford Mustang Design Chief Darrell Behmer said. “The Eagle Squadron Mustang GT build with Vaughn and the Ford design team is a great way to honor our heroes and keep the spirit of aviation alive for the next generation of American pilots.”

The Eagle Squadron Mustang GT is a unique specimen in the motor vehicle department. Complete with a Ford Performance supercharger and a 700-horsepower 5.0-liter V8, it sports a Tactical Performance suspension package and an RTR carbon fiber wide-body kit. The highest bidder for this car will win a package for two people to attend the 2018 Ford Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit, MI. The Dream Cruise takes place in August, where the winning bidder can take ownership of the car with an autographed plaque from the Ford design team and Gittin himself. Many other unique Ford car choices exist at North Brothers Ford. If you are looking for a particular model, we can help you explore all the different choices that might be suitable for you and your automotive needs.

Summer Car Care Tips

WESTLAND, Mich.,–– Vacation season is here, which means you'll be out and about a lot this summer! Making sure to take good care of your vehicle and to keep up on routine maintenance during the hot summer months can help you avoid the headache of car trouble on any trips, whether it's your commute to work or to somewhere out of state for vacation. Take advantage of our summer car care tips to protect your vehicle from sun and heat damage, keep you and your passengers comfortable, and to keep your car running well on the road!

Summer Car Care Tips

Check Your Air Conditioning System

On scorching summer days, you won't regret keeping your A/C system properly maintained! If your A/C system is letting out little to no air or it's not cooling your cabin as quick as it used to, it may be time to have your system inspected. In some cases, your vehicle's air filter may need replacing. Getting your air filter replaced can be extremely beneficial as it will help your fuel efficiency and remove any pollen in the filter which can affect any allergies you might have, making it difficult to breathe. You'll be thankful once you get it replaced when you're stuck in traffic on a humid day!
In other cases, not receiving cool air could mean a more serious problem with your radiator or cooling system. If you're experiencing this, make sure to have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible for the sake of your engine!

Get a Car Wash

Grime and dirt can build up over time on your vehicle and it can be difficult to pay attention to, especially when you're busy having fun all summer. Although it's an easy task to ignore, it's important to keep up on car washes! This excess grime and dirt on your vehicle can cause micro scratching on the paint, which can lead to unsightly rust on vehicle's exterior. Whether you give your car a wash at home or have it washed at the car wash, make sure to top it off with a wax to even further protect your vehicle's paint. If you choose to wash your car at home, use gentle materials and soap formulated for automotive purposes to avoid any abrasion to your car's exterior.

Park in the Shade

Whenever you get the opportunity, park in the shade! Your vehicle can heat up fairly quickly. Overtime, your vehicle's interior can become discolored and worn from UV rays, so regularly parking in the shade can help fight the aging process. The hot temperature can also wear down other components like tires, brake fluid, belts and hoses, and make them more susceptible to damage. As simple as it seems, parking in the shade will help to extend the life of your vehicle. Plus, you'll be thankful when you get back in your vehicle and it's not blazing hot.

Replace Your Coolant

One of the most important parts of your vehicle, engine coolant, is used to regulate the temperature of your engine. Whether it's cooling down a warm engine on a hot day or a cold day, engine coolant plays an important role of regulating temperature in your vehicle's regular running function. Because it gets much warmer in the summer, your engine is simply more susceptible to overheating if the coolant is leaking or needs replacing. Engine coolant is typically replaced every 30,000 miles, or at the specified interval in your owner's manual. If you aren't sure when it was last replaced, we'd be happy to take a look and recommend a service date.

Check Other Essential Fluids

Besides coolant, your other vehicle fluids should be replaced regularly to ensure your vehicle can withstand the heat and get you through all your summer adventures. Whether it's engine oil, wiper fluids, or brake fluid, each plays a very important role. Engine oil is usually replaced every 3,000-5,000 miles. Wiper fluid should be replaced as it's used to ensure you have enough liquid to clear your windshield. Brake fluid isn't something that needs replacing often, but it should be inspected if your brakes are feeling too soft or if it's taking you longer to complete a stop.

What to Do if Your Car Breaks Down on a Road Trip

WESTLAND, Mich.–– Road trips can be very fun and exciting adventures, but it's always good to remain prepared in case of an emergency. Making sure you know what to do if your car breaks down on a road trip will pay off if anything does happen to your vehicle. Vehicle breakdowns are stressful and time-consuming, but simple preparation for these types of situations will make the process just a bump in the road on your vacation! So be prepared before, during, and after a breakdown with these helpful tips!

What to Do if Your Car Breaks Down on a Road Trip

Before: Get Your Vehicle Inspected

The best way to prevent or reduce your chances of a breakdown is to get your vehicle inspected. Schedule an appointment with us at North Brothers Ford and we'll do a full inspection to make sure your vehicle is in proper working condition before hitting the road this summer. We'll be happy to give you an estimate on any maintenance costs, as well. If you're looking to make the most of your money, consider utilizing some of our coupons to save some extra road trip cash that could come in handy later!

Before: Prepare a Roadside Emergency Kit

Keeping a roadside emergency kit in your vehicle will prove extremely useful in the event that it breaks down. Having the tools you need to get yourself back on the road, will help eliminate the need for a tow truck and costly repairs from an unfamiliar auto shop. While a roadside emergency kit can contain many items, we've outlined a few extremely important tools and objects to keep on hand, including:

  • A spare tire, jack, and tire iron
  • Jumper cables
  • Engine coolant
  • Water, snacks, and a first-aid kit
  • Basic tools (screwdriver, wrench, pliers, etc.)

During: Remain Safe and Calm

In the event that you run into vehicle problems on the road, such as your engine overheating or a flat tire, make sure you're cautious and don't ignore the issue. Make sure everyone in your vehicle is okay and that you're able to safely pull over on the shoulder or side of the road. If your vehicle does run into trouble, follow this 5-step plan to safely handle a breakdown:

  1. Turn on your hazard lights and pull over at a safe distance from traffic. This will give you room to assess any damage done to your vehicle and you can pop your hood if you need it.
  2. Keep an eye on your surroundings: Are you on the backroads or a highway? Are you able to contact help using your phone? How close are you to the nearest gas station? How well-lit is the area you pulled over at? This information can help you remain safe and secure in the event of a breakdown and can help you alleviate any stress you may have during the process.
  3. Take a look at the damage to your vehicle. Is your tire flat? Is your engine smoking? Take note of anything you notice and write it down if you can.
  4. If possible, try to perform the repairs on your own. If you have a flat tire, switch it out for a spare, but if you aren't sure what to do, don't be afraid to ask for help. Call the police or a towing company and explain the situation. They'll be able to help you in no time!
  5. If you were able to successfully replace your vehicle's tire or perform maintenance or get a tow truck, make sure to take your vehicle to the nearest dealership or auto shop right away for professional assistance to make sure your vehicle is alright.  If you're still in the Detroit area, North Brothers Ford will help tow your vehicle and get everything taken care of as fast as possible. Contact us in the event of an emergency!

After: Keep a Record of the Event

After you get your vehicle looked at and take it in to the nearest dealership or auto shop, make sure you let the mechanic know exactly what happened from start to finish. If you are able to give the mechanic a detailed description of what happened, it will help them work on your repairs at a much quicker rate, and it may get you back on the road quickly. Don't forget to keep a record of your repairs if the problem persists to prevent any additional costs. If your vehicle's repair will take longer than expected, make sure you ask if they offer rental vehicles. Making sure you're back on the road and enjoying your vacation is important, especially after a stressful vehicle breakdown.

Road trips, while very enjoyable, can also be extremely unpredictable. Preparing yourself for any situation big or small is necessary if you want to maximize your fun on your vacation. Knowing what to do if your car breaks down on a road trip will help you save time and money this summer out on the road. Don't forget to schedule an appointment with us before you leave for your vacation so we can make sure your vehicle is up to speed!

Updated Ford F-150 Raptor Raises the Bar for Ultimate Off-Road Performance

WESTLAND, Mich. -- Ford is making the beastly F-150 Raptor, which already holds the title of the ultimate high-performance off-road pickup, even better with next-level technology including class-exclusive, electronically-controlled FOX shocks, new Trail Control, and all-new Recaro sport seats.

“Raptor’s success is rooted in its incredible suspension, superb vehicle control and the confidence the truck instills in its owners,” says Hermann Salenbauch, global director, Ford Performance vehicle programs. “Upgrades to the 2019 F-150 Raptor have improved all three to new levels that the competition will have to benchmark – again.”

While Raptor has plenty of torque and horsepower, that's not the only thing that goes into building a high-performance off-road truck. We're talking, of course, about the suspension. The upgrades to the Raptor’s suspension system make it even more capable of clawing away at the terrain.
To enhance Raptor’s already proven internal bypass shocks, Ford Performance worked directly with FOX to develop class-exclusive, electronically controlled Live Valve technology for the new platform that continuously adjusting damping. The FOX setup uses special sensors in the suspension and body to maximize comfort, handling, and bottom-out resistance.
“By automatically varying compression rates, Raptor can now make the most of its suspension travel of 13 inches at the front and 13.9 inches at the rear,” says Salenbauch. “The 2019 Raptor is not just more capable off-road. It’s smarter.”
Paired with 2019 Ford Raptor’s Terrain Management System, Live Valve suspension technology enhances the truck’s high-speed, off-road capability while also enabling smooth on-road driving performance.
“Not many trucks need sensors to detect when you are mid-air,” says Salenbauch. “Raptor sets the dampers to full stiffness to help smooth shock performance as the truck lands.”
Low-speed performance off-road is also improved. New Trail Control helps navigate challenging conditions. Think of it as cruise control for low-speed, rugged terrain, automatically adjusting power and braking to each individual wheel. This allows drivers to focus on steering over rugged terrain. Trail Control can be activated at speeds from 1 mph up to 20 mph depending on driveline position.
Whether you're driving a simple two-track trail or traversing rocky terrain, the new Trail Control system makes everything easier. Not only can it automatically draw significant engine torque to overcome steep obstacles, it can individually brake the wheels so the truck comes down smoothly on the other side.
Moving on to the interior, the 2019 Ford Raptor features enhanced seats to help keep drivers firmly in place for improved confidence at low and high speeds over rough terrain. Recaro sport seats provide aggressive support with generous bolstering in the seat back and cushion.
The upgraded 2019 F-150 Raptor will be built at Dearborn Truck Plant. It goes on sale in late 2018.

We hope you're as excited about the all-new 2019 Ford F-150 Raptor as we are! In the meantime, schedule a service appointment with us to ensure that your current truck is running at its best. When the new Raptor does finally hit the showroom, let us value your trade and get you into one of your own!

I Was In An Accident, What Do I Do Now?

WESTLAND, Mich. -- Accidents. They happen to the best of us. In the shock of the moment, it can be difficult to gather your thoughts and do what you need to do to and recover, but that's why North Brothers Ford is here! While a lot of drivers may not think of the possibility of a major collision, it's important to have a game plan just in case. We hope you never have to use it, but here are some things you should know if you're involved in a car accident.

EXCHANGE INFORMATION

When you've determined that everyone else involved in the accident is okay, you should exchange information. In most cases, this includes license numbers, vehicle registration, and insurance info. Make sure you do not leave the scene of the accident until you've gathered everything you need to file a claim with your insurance company.

GET A POLICE REPORT

Once you've gathered information from all drivers involved in the accident, call the police so they can document the incident, and call an ambulance if needed. Getting a police report is important for insurance purposes. Make sure to point out any damage to your car to the responding officer, and make a personal note of their name as well as the report number.

TAKE PHOTOS

When you're in an accident, taking photos of vehicle and property damage as well as personal injuries can mean the difference between a successful and unsuccessful insurance claim. Memory is notoriously unreliable, and having documented evidence can help build a strong case to get you the full compensation to which you're entitled.

SCHEDULE A COLLISION APPOINTMENT

Once everything is said and done, schedule a collision service appointment with North Brothers Ford! If you haven't already contacted your insurance company, we can make the call together. While your vehicle is in our shop, we can also help you make arrangements to get a rental car. No job is too big for us, and we're committed to getting you up and running and back on the road!

While North Brothers Ford hopes you never have to use this information, it's still important to know what to do in the event of an accident. Exchanging information, getting a police report, and taking photos are all crucial to getting the compensation you deserve. In the shock of the moment, it can be difficult to calm your nerves and take care of business, but it is essential.

Ford EcoSport Offers Next-Level Features at an Accessible Price for Young Drivers

Ford EcoSport Offers Next-Level Features at an Accessible Price for Young Drivers

WESTLAND, Mich. -- While there may be a gap when it comes to music and fashion, drivers of the Gen Z cohort (those born 1995) have at least one thing in common with their parents: SUVs.

Making up more than a quarter of the US population with nearly one-third having reached driving age, Gen Z is making quite an impact on the auto industry. Despite their reputation as ride-share enthusiasts, a recent study has shown that 92% of the Z generation plans to own or lease a new vehicle. As to what kind, the country's youngest drivers are ditching the subcompact car and gravitating towards the subcompact SUV.

“Baby Boomers, Gen Xers, Millennials – everybody wants their SUV, and Gen Z is no different,” says Ford US sales analyst Erich Merkle. “As more new small SUVs like Ford EcoSport become available, you’ll see the subcompact SUV segment continue to climb as a popular new car of choice for first-time buyers.” Merkle adds that sales of subcompact SUVs among 18-to-24-year-olds will surpass that of subcompact cars as early as next year.

In 2014, the 18 to 24 age group in the United States purchased 8,121 subcompact cars and only 443 subcompact SUVs. Flash forward to 2017, that same age group purchased 3,981 subcompact cars and 2,480 subcompact SUVs - that's a 541% spike in just four years.

The Ford EcoSport, which hit showrooms earlier this year, is the newest of nine vehicles looking to capitalize on Gen Z's growing affinity for the subcompact SUV. Fuel-efficient and with the cargo space desired by young drivers, the EcoSport comes at an accessible price for Gen Z to consider over the used car option for their first ride, with a starting price of under $20,000. On top of that, the EcoSport comes equipped with 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine that returns an EPA-estimated 28mpg combined rating and a range of up to 381 miles per tankful.

Ford EcoSport Offers Next-Level Features at an Accessible Price for Young Drivers

What else does the Gen Z cohort love about subcompact SUVs? As the "Connected Generation", technology is extremely important to young drivers. As a result, subcompact SUV designers strive to include more features like Wi-Fi, multiple charging ports, and smartphone app-compatible entertainment systems.

The Ford EcoSport comes with all that and more including compatibility with popular tech products like Amazon Alexa, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Additionally, FordPass provides remote access through a smartphone app, plus an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen, and is also available with a B&O Play premium audio system and SiriusXM satellite radio.

“To Gen Z buyers, connectivity is everything,” says Karen Sullivan, Ford EcoSport brand marketing manager. “Their car serves as an extension of their phone and their home, and we’re seeing an exciting response from these young customers to our all-new EcoSport.”

To top it all off, the Ford EcoSport provides cargo space Gen Z can't get out of a subcompact car, boasting 50 cubic feet behind the front row - nearly double that of a Fiesta hatchback - and 20.9 cubic feet behind the second row - much greater than the trunk space of a Focus sedan.

KEEP UP WITH SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE

Oil changes, tire replacements or rotations, wheel alignments, brake inspections, wiper blade replacements, filter exchanges, and fluid fill-ups are all a part of routine and scheduled maintenance. Completing these services at the right time can eliminate unnecessary wear, damage, and even accidents that can result in costly repairs. Keeping up with routine service also helps to keep you and your passengers safe on the road. You can even set up a customized maintenance schedule with Ford for your specific vehicle to help you keep track of your vehicle's specific needs.

KEEP A SERVICE RECORD

Keeping a service record helps to keep you on track and on time for future services. Our service technicians will always help keep track of your routine maintenance needs, like oil changes and tire rotations. How you do it is really up to you whether it's on your smartphone, mobile device, or personal computer. You could also keep a physical file folder at home with papers and receipts from past services. Either way, you'll be better equipped to schedule services at the right time and avoid missing important maintenance services.

USE THE CORRECT FUEL AND FLUIDS

Each vehicle is built differently, and thus require different things to keep it running properly. When it comes to fuel, you should only fill up with the type your vehicle requires. Most times, you'll need to use Regular or Unleaded fuel, but if you have a performance-based car or heavy-duty pickup, you might require Premium or Diesel fuel. As for other fluids, there are many different kinds used throughout your vehicle including oil, power steering fluid, wiper fluid, etc. If you use the wrong kind, you can potentially cause damage to your vehicle's internal components, which can cost you more in repairs. Our service techs can tell you what your car's specific needs are, as can your owner's manual.

GO EASY ON YOUR VEHICLE

If you take care of your car, it'll take care of you. Driving carefully, as opposed to driving aggressively, can help you save on fuel and on service in the long run. Avoid frequent hard stops whenever possible, frequent "pedal to the metal" starting, and excessive speeding and idling. You can also fill up before your gas gauge hits E, avoid hitting potholes and curbs as best you can, and avoid taking frequent trips that are under 5 miles. It's especially important to take it easy on your car if the engine is new or under 1,500 miles. It's recommended to avoid exceeding 75 mpg, excessive idling, towing or carrying heavy loads, and pushing the engine to the higher rpm range. We also recommend letting your car warm up in the winter by idling for only about 30 seconds or up to 5 minutes maximum when the temperature is below zero. All of these recommendations will help your engine run it's best, help your car run longer, and help you save on fuel. Check out Ford's fuel saving tips online for more info.

CLEAN YOUR CAR REGULARLY

The weather in Michigan can take a toll on your vehicle inside and out, but it's up to you to keep it clean and protected. Regularly washing the exterior can help avoid grime and road salt build-up, which can slowly become corrosive to the paint and exposed components over time if you don't wash your vehicle. We also recommend keeping the interior clean to protect the surfaces and materials from diminishing or deteriorating. If you choose to do vehicle cleaning at home, make sure to only use cleaning agents formulated for automotive uses!
Those were some service tips and tricks from our technicians. If you have any questions or are in the market for service, don't hesitate to give us a call or schedule an appointment online! At North Brothers Ford, we're happy to help you with anything you need to take care of your car.
