2017 Ford Escape and Fusion Will Offer A Better Listening Experience

WESTLAND, Mich.––Whether it's the static on the radio, the road noise, or simply low-quality speakers in your car, it's annoying and it can really downgrade your overall driving experience. If you've ever been driving through a downtown or mountainous area and your radio all the sudden cuts out, you might want to listen up (pun intended) to what Ford has to say. The 2017 Ford Escape and Fusion will offer a better listening experience with improved radio reception, better quality audio, and improved cabin acoustics.


It doesn't matter if you're listening to an audiobook, a metal music album, or your favorite FM station, your sound quality is important to you. Because driving requires full attention on the road, we lean towards audio stimulation for entertainment. In fact, 93% of Americans listen to the radio weekly, which is more so than smart phones or TV. The dual reception radio system includes a two receivers, one of which is on the rear-window heater grid. Having two receivers helps eliminate or reduce interference, because the frequency is received twice. This technology is especially helpful in cities and certain landscapes, like the mountains, which are notorious for bouncing radio signals. It's also helpful because the secondary receiver will determine which FM radio signal is the strongest, or most reliable, and will switch to whichever signal that is.

 

Digital audio bus technology delivers high-fidelity sound. The acoustic laminated glass, available in the Fusion, comes together with the digital audio bus technology to create a smooth sound by blocking road noise. The 2017 Ford Fusion with acoustic laminated glass provides more cabin quietness than the 2016 Honda Accord and Toyota Camry. The number of speakers on the Fusion Hybrid S and Hybrid SE are increasing from six to nine. The Hybrid and Energi models include the Active Noise Control feature which sends out sound waves that cancel out sounds like engine and wind noise.

“These changes are the result of listening to feedback from dozens of listeners over hundreds of hours,” said Alan Norton, senior technical leader for Ford audio systems. “It’s all about attention to detail. By improving radio reception and taking other steps to improve sound quality and acoustics, we aim to give customers the consistent, enjoyable sound they deserve. In many cases, the best audio systems our customers have are in their vehicles. We don’t want them to settle for low sound quality.”

Redefined Cup Holders in the 2017 Ford Fusion

WESTLAND, Mich.––Take a moment to think about your car: how it runs, how it functions, how well the features work. Do any annoyances come to mind? For instance, that there's not enough storage in your center console, the steering wheel buttons are hard to use, or that those cup holders just aren't big enough for your coffee cup. Ford is listening, and has redefined cup holders in the 2017 Ford Fusion.

Why is this important? They're just cup holders, right? All these features in your car that don't function the way you want them to become a daily annoyance which can ultimately give you a worse impression of the vehicle overall than if the feature did "its job".

Ford research has taken on the challenge of fixing the seemingly menial feature, the cup holders. They first wanted to know why cup holders are so important to their customers. Ford research and a Nielsen study have given Ford the information they needed to improve the current Fusion cup holders. The studies showed that consumers not only use cup holders for their intended use of beverages, but also for loose change, mobile devices, and more.

The new redefined cup holders in the 2017 Ford Fusion are more forward leaving more room for an extended arm rest by 3 inches. The arm rest bin or center console now has an extra half-gallon of storage in the 2017 Ford Fusion, plus a pocket for small item storage. The cup holders also have new spring-loaded grips. Why exactly were these changes made? Let's look at some of the studies findings:

• Consumers value a large cup holder, yet want one that's able to hold a skinny container without it tipping over. 
• Bottles and large soft drink cups are the most common beverage item found in a cup holder in the U.S. North Americans are shown to be more likely to drink on the go. 
• Consumers want a cup holder than can hold three sizes of drink where you can easily store a taller container, but still be able to easily access a shorter one. 
• Consumers desire everything directly in reach, even with their very specific arm length and seat position.
• Cup holders hold more than cups, especially with male drivers. Phones are the most common item, but loose change, food, gum or mints, and wallets respectively followed.

New Stop-and-Go Technology for the 2017 Ford Fusion

WESTLAND, Mich.––Ford has been making innovations to make mobility easier overall for customers with FordPass and new features in upcoming vehicles. Some of these innovations include the upgraded Cold Weather Package for the Ford Escape, Pothole Mitigation for the Ford Fusion, and Winter Wheel & Tire Package for the Ford Focus RS. Not to mention the new stop-and-go technology for the 2017 Ford Fusion making stressful commutes easier on the driver.

This new stop and go technology goes alongside the adaptive cruise control feature available on the 2017 Ford Fusion. In fact, this feature is just one of 20 driver-assist features on the 2017 Ford Fusion. This model will be arriving at dealerships this spring.

Did you know the average U.S. driver will spend nearly an hour per week stuck in awful traffic? Depending on your situation, it could even be more than just an hour per week. Ford knows this is a big pain for many drivers. While they can't particularly make the traffic any better, they can make the drive a little easier, which is where the stop-and-go and adaptive cruise technologies come in.

On the inside of the 2017 Ford Fusion, drivers will be able to set cruise control speed and the following distance from the vehicle ahead. Because it is a semi-autonomous technology, the vehicle will automatically adjust the speed according to traffic. If traffic halts, so does the vehicle. Adaptive Cruise tracks the road every 50 milliseconds with a radar and camera system, which in turn adjusts the cruise control to adapt to current traffic flow.

This entire system, with little to no driver action, can automatically and fully brake the car. The car also has features to notify drivers of possible collision situations. The entire system of features including Adaptive Cruise Control and Stop-and-Go can not only decrease the impact of a collision, but can also completely prevent a collision from happening.
