Ford Makes Carbon Fiber Wheel for Shelby GT350R Mustang

Ford Makes Carbon Fiber Wheel for Shelby GT350R Mustang

WESTLAND, Mich.– When you’re driving the highest performing track-ready pony cars in existence, you’re going to want a set of reliable wheels that can handle the intensity, which is why Ford makes carbon fiber wheels for the Shelby GT350R Mustang.

Aftermarket companies have been producing carbon fiber wheels for years, but Ford has been toying around with the idea of becoming the first automotive manufacturer to mass-produce carbon fiber wheels for a while now and its ready to debut the development with the GT350R.

Considering the intensity of the GT350R, Ford coats its carbon fiber wheels with the same ceramic plasma arc spray used on the Space Shuttle. This coating creates a barrier of thermal protection that prevents brake heat from taking a toll on the wheel, and also provides an attractive finish.

Style and thermal protection are assets of Ford’s carbon fiber technology, but the wheels also improve suspension response times, chassis performance, weight reduction, and handling. Ford rigorously tests its carbon fiber wheels to ensure they perform according to these aspects and meet its strict guidelines for durability, quality, craftsmanship and finish, so you know they make for a great ride.

All Ford wheels undergo harsh tests that include curb strikes, UV and chemical exposure and blistering heat, but the GT350R’s new carbon fiber wheels have a strengthened defense system against these things thanks to their stiffness, light weight and resilience.

How Ford makes carbon fiber wheels for the Shelby GT350R Mustang may mislead you to think the process is simple, but we guarantee there was a great deal of science and experimentation that went into developing strength and dependability.

An RFID chip, with a unique number tracked by a quality assurance system, is inserted into a premade structure of woven carbon fiber strands, after which the structure is infused with resin and cured at high temperatures. A high-gloss black coating adds extra protection against heat, and gives the wheels a stylish look.

This process creates one whole structure and eliminates the need to bond and weld disparate parts together to form a structure, which is what makes Ford’s carbon fiber wheels so much more durable than typical aluminum wheels. While you may not own a Shelby GT350R Mustang, the only available model that currently sports Ford’s carbon fiber wheels, you can find similar lasting durability in the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Redford Area Ford Dealer!

2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty Earn Vehicle Satisfaction Awards

2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty Earn Vehicle Satisfaction Awards

WESTLAND, Mich.– Once again, Ford is being recognized for producing vehicles of exceptional quality. This time around the 2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty earned Vehicle Satisfaction Awards from AutoPacific, an automotive research and consulting company.

AutoPacific gave the F-150 the Vehicle Satisfaction Award for light-duty pickups, and recognized the pickup as having the second-highest owner score ever and the highest truck rating ever. This adds to the F-150’s reputation for best-in-class towing, payload and EPA-estimated gasoline fuel economy, as well as obtaining a five-star government safety rating.

The group awarded the F-Series Super Duty the Vehicle Satisfaction Award for heavy-duty pickups. The Super Duty is already recognized for best-in-class diesel power and standard torque, and the F-350 Super Duty recently earned the Edmunds.com 2015 Best Retained Value Heavy Duty Truck award.

The Vehicle Satisfaction Awards look at the big picture, including owners’ experiences with overall quality and safety, but it goes deeper than that,” said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific. “We also take into account the heart of the ownership experience to determine those vehicles that are extremely satisfying to their owners.”

To determine that the 2015 Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty should earn Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, AutoPacific left the decision to truck owners. AutoPacific weighed drivers’ satisfaction with their trucks based on how they responded to 50 unique vehicle attributes associated with their truck, such as fuel economy, performance, interior comfort and styling.

After winning these Vehicle Satisfaction Awards, the Ford F-150 and F-Series Super Duty confirm our belief that Ford makes the most popular trucks of the highest quality in the world. If you still don’t believe us, explain why U.S. military members love Ford trucks! Or you can come see for yourself and test drive one of the New Ford Trucks or New Ford Cars at our Canton Area Ford Dealer– we’d love for you to!

Ford to Teach Teens Safe Driving Techniques

Ford to Teach Teens Safe Driving Techniques

WESTLAND, Mich.– Automotive innovation and technology, city planning, strategizing for the global future– after doing so much outside of manufacturing vehicles, one might ask what more Ford could do.

It looks like the next logical step is for Ford to teach teens safe driving techniques at the first ever Driving Skills for Life summer camp, which will tour six states beginning on July 7, in Fargo, N.D. before travelling to Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Wyoming into August. Each camp stop will be a total of four half-day sessions that include a DSFL curriculum of vehicle handling, hazard recognition, speed management and space management.

The six states chosen for the Driving Skills for Life summer camp ranked highest for high school teens ages 16 years or older to drink and drive, and, according to the CDC, teen drivers are three times more likely than experienced drivers to die in a motor vehicle accident, also the biggest cause of death for American teens.

Ford is partnering with the Governors Highway Safety Association to run the DSFL summer camp tour during a time of the year when teens are most likely to get in accidents. Giving teen drivers the knowledge they need to drive safe during a season of heightened accidents could be a strategic move to decrease teen driving accidents.

No one asked Ford to teach teens safe driving techniques, but the company has carved out time to imbue teens with knowledge like how you should handle your vehicle on slick pavement or what you can do if an object or animal suddenly comes into view in front of your moving vehicle. Ford will also cover the dangers of driving under the influence by letting teens experience simulated impairment through goggles and a special suit.

Teens are the focus of DSFL, but Ford wants parents to come out with their teens as well. No matter what age or how experience you are as a driver, you can always learn something new or correct bad driving habits through activities like hands-on ride-and-drive courses and helpful classroom material like that offered by Ford with DSFL.

Although DSFL won’t be in our area, we’re happy to see Ford branching out and spending time in states that need a little extra help getting their teens to drive safe. While Ford has produced vehicles that receive top-government safety ratings like the 2015 Ford Edge, their presence in so many other areas outside of manufacturing makes us appreciate the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Garden City Area Ford Dealer even more!

Mustang Gallops Ahead of Competition in 2015 Sales Race

Mustang Gallops Ahead of Competition in 2015 Sales Race

WESTLAND, Mich.– The Chevrolet Camaro has held the top-sales position in its segment for the last six years, but that hasn’t deterred pony car enthusiasts from purchasing the 2015 Ford Mustang.

After a sales increase of 55 percent this year the Mustang galloped ahead of competition in the 2015 sales race, pulling ahead of the Chevy Camaro and the Dodge Challenger.

Ford sold 56,571 Mustangs through May 2015, compared to 33,938 Camaro sales and 30,166 Challenger sales, according to Autodata Corp. The 2015 Mustang’s high sales can be attributed to its 50th-anniversary redesign and the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that equips it with 310 horsepower and helps it achieve 32 miles per gallon on the highway.

What might surprise you is who the big buyers are who helped the Mustang gallop ahead of competition in the 2015 sales race. According to Ford, 35 percent of Mustang buyers this year were millennials, many of whom reside in Southern California where Mustang sales are up 117 percent.

Ford expects the Mustang to have a 40 percent sales increase for June, based on the overall increase in sales this year, which would bring the pony car even closer to being its segment’s best seller for the first time in six years.

While the Mustang may have the lead in sales, some speculate the 2016 Camaro and its convertible counterpart, set to debut in spring 2016, could make for rocky competition. However, we think you should stay confident that Ford’s pony will keep its lead in this race– they didn’t name it the Mustang for nothing!

Like always, Ford has proven itself through sales numbers that speak volumes about the quality and appeal of its vehicles. Come see the New Ford Cars and New Ford Trucks at our Ford Dealership Serving Plymouth, MI, and you’ll see what we mean!

How to Make Sure Your Steak is Done this Fourth of July

How to Make Sure Your Steak is Done this Fourth of July

WESTLAND, Mich.– Summer in general is a season for grilling, but holidays like Independence Day are when Americans really like to show off their tong-handling, meat-searing, steak-flipping skills. Regardless of how slick you are with the grill tools, it’s vital that you know how to make sure your steak is done this Fourth of July before serving it to anyone. Here are some tips:

Rare Steak
Some are puzzled by others’ affinity for undercooked meat, but you or someone you know might be the guy celebrating the Fourth of July with a hunk of red meat on their plate. To test for a properly cooked rare steak, form a circle with your index finger and thumb. With your other index finger press the palm under your thumb. Yup, that’s what a rare steak feels like!

Medium-Rare Steak
This one is just as simple. Make a circle with your middle finger and thumb, and press the palm under your thumb. Are you starting to see a pattern here?

Medium Steak
You guessed it: Make a circle with your ring finger and thumb. Press the palm. There’s your medium steak.

Well-Done Steak
Bet you’re expecting a curveball with this one. Well, you’re wrong, we’re sticking with the same pattern. Make a circle with your pinky and thumb– press and feel the toughness of a well-done steak.

Regardless of what secret rub recipe you’ve concocted and love to brag about, despite your shiny new grill and aside from your tong-mastery, to be a true grill master you need to know how to make sure your steak is done this Fourth of July the way your guests like it!

If you're a Ford driver, you already have an eye for great vehicles like the New Ford Vehicles and Used Vehicles at our Westland Ford Dealership, so all you have to do is carry that over to the grill to spot when a steak is ready to serve!

North Brothers Ford is located at 33300 Ford Rd Westland, MI 48185 and proudly serves as one of the premier dealerships in Metro Detroit, committed to exceptional customer service! New Ford MoDe:Flex Electric Bike Makes City Living Easy

New Ford MoDe:Flex Electric Bike Makes City Living Easy

WESTLAND, Mich. –– Urban dwelling is making a comeback, and Ford Motor Co. is searching outside the bounds of its automotive territory for solutions that could improve livability in places with swelling populations. The new Ford MoDe:Flex electric bike makes city living easy and is one of the automaker's most impressive answers to the transportation dilemma of owning or driving a vehicle in an urban setting. The newest Ford eBike and its prototype smartphone app make daily travel, such as commuting to and from work, feasible in a metropolis.

As Ford’s third and most functional eBike, MoDe:Flex has the ability to adjust to customers’ specific needs. The center frame assembly consists of a motor and battery to assist riders, and the front and rear assemblies and wheels can be adjusted for road, mountain, or city riding. The bike folds to fit inside any Ford vehicle where it can charge while stowed, making transportation easy for those who drive into a city for work –– or play –– but prefer to get around by bike while in town.

Similar to the MoDe:Me and MoDe:Pro eBikes Ford debuted in March 2015,  the new Ford MoDe:Flex electric bike makes city living easy by syncing with the MoDe:Link app on an eBike rider’s smartphone. The app forwards important information concerning weather, congestion, parking prices, time, traffic, and public transportation to ensure the journey is efficient, cost-effective, and safe.

A new extension of MoDe:Link for the smartwatch puts all of this real-time data and functionality on an eBike rider’s wrist, and includes features like the no-sweat mode, which boosts electric pedal assist based on the rider’s heart rate and keeps them sweat-free. Other functions of the MoDe:Link smartwatch extension include safety notifications such as vibrating handlebars and beeping to indicate upcoming obstructions or hazards, such as potholes, in the rider’s path.

Ford is also experimenting with ways MoDe:Flex could act as a data receptacle. Sensors installed on the bike could collect data on traffic and pedestrian patters, and road conditions to help city officials develop better bike lanes through urban landscapes, while riders could benefit from insights on the best or worst routes to take.

Ford’s development of the MoDe:Flex eBike may seem peculiar coming from a company that initiated automotive mass production. But when you think about Ford's goal to develop technologies and transportation that drive humanity down better roads, it makes sense why it would create room in its project space for two-wheeled transit. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll sell eBikes on the same lot as the New Ford Vehicles and Used Vehicles at our Westland Ford Dealership.
