Ford F-650 and F-750 Production Creates 1,000 Jobs for Ohio

WESTLAND, Mich. – Large American corporations have received plenty of flak over the years for unabashedly moving their production overseas or across the border to Mexico, and Ford has followed suit in some ways.

However, it makes us proud to hear news that Ford F-650 and F-750 production will create 1,000 jobs for Ohio now that the automaker has moved manufacturing of its medium-duty trucks from south of the border to Ohio Assembly Plant in Avon Lake, Ohio.

America’s best-selling commercial trucks for the last 30 years rolled off the line for the first time in the United States on August 12, 2015. Their production is the impetus for over 1,000 hourly UAW jobs and a U.S. plant investment of $168 million. Ford also furnished the plant with new body shop equipment and necessary tooling for Ford F-650 and F-750 production that will create 1,000 jobs for Ohio.

The F-650 and F-750 are available in Regular Cab, SuperCab, and Crew Cab body styles and in straight-frame, dock-height, and a tractor model good for heavy towing. Both trucks also contain a diesel engine and transmission combination designed and built by Ford, something no other truck manufacturer accomplishes on its own.

Ford is also the only automaker to make available a gasoline-powered engine for its pickups in the medium-duty truck segment. In addition, the F-650 and F-750 have a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine option, and a 6.8-liter V10 option with 320 horsepower and 460 pounds per feet of torque.

Ford Shows Support in many ways towards US Military Veterans

WESTLAND, Mich. – Ninety-three years ago, Henry Ford arranged a convoy of 50 Model T vehicles to chauffeur countless military veterans across the country to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) National Convention in San Francisco.

It was in 1922 that the father of the automotive industry first publicly acknowledged his value in America’s military through this grandiose but gratuitous act of assistance to veterans. In 2015, Ford Motor Co. shows support in many ways towards U.S. military veterans and continues its founder's legacy of philanthropy. 

Since 1996, Ford has donated 199 vehicles to the DAV fleet that helps disabled veterans get where they need to be. Recently, Ford added to that number and donated 7 Flex utility vehicles that will be used by the DAV in Little Rock, Ark.; Iowa City, Iowa; Iron Mountain, Mich.; Omaha, Neb.; Portland, Ore.; Salt Lake City; and Seattle.

In addition to donating 7 Flex utility vehicles to the DAV, Ford Fund – Ford’s philanthropic wing – will sponsor DAV 5k walks in Atlanta, Cincinnati, and San Diego. Plus, Ford Fund will continue to finance the Jesse Brown Memorial Youth Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to young men and women who step forward to help disabled veterans in their communities.

Other ways Ford shows support towards U.S. military veterans include their support this past spring for the DAV Winter Sports Clinic in Snowmass, Colo. Ford also plans to partner with Project SNAP to bring veterans and their communities together to create artful messages of thanks to active military members that will join this year’s Operation Grateful Nation mural ­­– last year’s artwork is on display at the Pentagon.

Additionally, Ford worked with National Veterans Transition Services, Inc. to develop the Freedom’s Sisters REBOOT Workshop that assists women veterans as they transition from military to civilian culture.

Ford Fund is also a large sponsor of Honor Flights, which carry World War II veterans to the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. To further honor World War II veterans, Ford paid special tribute to them at this year’s Ford Fireworks in Detroit, which included a flyover by vintage World War II-era planes.

As you can see, Ford and Ford Fund pay special attention to America's men and women who serve in or who are veterans of the U.S. military. Since 1974, Ford has donated close to $9.3 million to veteran’s organizations, and now employs over 7,000 veterans and hundreds of active military personnel, reservists, and guardsmen.

The Difference Between Buying a New Car Versus a Used Car

WESTLAND, Mich.­­– Much like the debate over whether you should buy or lease a vehicle, you might also grapple with the difference between buying a new car versus a used car. Off the top of your head, you can probably think of a number of factors that go into this decision such as cost, technology, and repairs. But the questions you really want to answer ask how exactly those factors set apart the new from the used.

What does each cost?

More often than not, a new car will be pricier than a used car. This is because new vehicles tend to include newer technology, updated features, and modern design elements. However, if keeping up with automotive trends isn’t a priority for you, consider the fact that buying a used car will save you money due to its lack of contemporary features.

What are the differences in financing?

Interest rates hinge on a car’s resale value. It’s easier for a bank to predict how much a new car will depreciate compared to a used car (within 5 years new cars can depreciate by $9,000). Used cars come with higher interest rates than new cars do because they're more prone to major mechanical issues. Then there's the risk of a buyer who decides to bail on their used car purchase and leaves it for the bank to deal with a resale. A lender can make up for the uncertain resale value of a used car by hiking up the interest rate. However, despite used cars having higher interest rates, you still end up paying less in monthly payments because the cars principal is much lower than that of a new car.

How’s the gas mileage?

People really, really care about their gas mileage these days––you know how pricy the pumps can be. Of course, getting better fuel economy can be one of the perks of purchasing a new car. New cars usually get better gas mileage than used cars because, again, new cars tend to have updated technology. If you want to save money at the pump, a new car is your best bet.

Which costs more to insure?

Naturally, new cars cost more to insure than used cars do. Although new cars usually contain more updated safety features than used cars do, the higher cost of insurance for new cars is due to their overall higher value. The higher the value of the car, the more it costs to insure.

How much does maintenance and repairs cost?

A big chunk of a new car’s price tag includes a warranty that covers maintenance and repairs for a set amount of time. The great thing about a warranty is that you know most maintenance and repairs for are covered by the dealership or original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Just remember that eventually that warranty will disappear. Sometimes used cars come with warranties as well. These are called certified pre-owned vehicles, and you might consider this as an option for your next purchase. Aside from certified pre-owned vehicles, most used cars are more likely than new cars to require maintenance and repairs, which means you’ll end up paying more in that area. Then again, sometimes you get lucky and find a used car that runs forever without any major issues.

BraunAbility to Make Ford Explorer First Wheelchair-Accessible SUV

WESTLAND, Mich.– There couldn’t be a better way to mark the 25^th year of the Americans with Disabilities Act than for BraunAbility to make the Ford Explorer the first wheelchair-accessible SUV.

BraunAbility, a world leader in the mobility business, will produce a wheelchair accessible vehicle, the MXV, on the foundation of the Ford Explorer. The MXV will provide convenience to wheelchair users as well as many of the great features included in Ford’s best-selling sport utility vehicle, making it the ultimate wheelchair-accessible vehicle.

Starting Aug. 4, BraunAbility will manufacture the MXV in its 170,000-square-foot facility in Winamac, IN, and by the early fall you’ll be able to purchase the MXV at over 200 U.S. BraunAbility mobility dealers.

BraunAbility unveiled the MXV concept vehicle earlier this year in Daytona, Florida, and promised the first production MXV would be donated to wounded veteran and United States Marine Mike Delancey, who was paralyzed by a sniper’s bullet while serving in Iraq in 2006. Plans for BraunAbility to make the Ford Explorer the first wheelchair-accessible SUV means the MXV will come packed with technology from both companies. In regards to wheelchair accessibility, the MXV will include

2015 Ford F-150, Expedition and C-MAX Win J.D. Power Segment-Level Awards

WESTLAND, Mich.– If you haven’t noticed, Ford is on a roll and hasn’t had any trouble raking in awards for safety and satisfaction from the likes of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and AutoPacific, respectively. The automaker recently garnered more recognition when the 2015 Ford F-150, Expedition and C-MAX won J.D. Power segment-level awards.

The rankings­– derived from the most recent J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study– indicate the three Ford vehicles led their segments. If anything, this bolsters Ford’s position as America’s most reliable automaker that strives to produce quality vehicles.

For the second year in a row, the 2015 F-150 received the topmost award for the Large LightDuty Pickup segment. The 2015 Expedition was rated highest in the Large SUV segment and the 2015 C-MAX earned the Compact Multi-Purpose Vehicle Award.

This marked the 20^th year for the J.D. Power APEAL study, which is considered the best system to measure how much appeal a new vehicle brings to consumers based on how rewarding it is to own and drive it. To gauge the comprehensive value of their vehicles, owners look at 77 aspects that blend to make an overall APEAL Index score that is measured on a 1000-point scale.

The 2015 Ford F-150, Expedition and C-MAX won J.D. Power segment-level awards and earned a total brand score of 798, a 9-point improvement from last year that levels out with the industry average. Thanks to the improved numbers, Ford’s new vehicle APEAL Index score trumps the ratings of competitors like Chevrolet, Dodge and Chrysler.

Ford Headlight Technology Will Make Driving At Night Safer

WESTLAND, Mich. –– Driving at night can be a mysterious experience riddled with anxiety as you scan the limited stretch of illuminated road in front of your vehicle for late night joggers, dog walkers, or the naïve deer loping across a four-lane highway.

Thankfully, you’ll soon be unburdened of that stress and Ford headlight technology will make driving at night safer with the automaker’s Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System and Spot Lighting. These new technologies stem from Ford’s advanced Adaptive Front Lighting System and Traffic Sign Recognition available in current Ford models.

Ford’s Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System broadens your headlight beams at crossroads and roundabouts to expose normally unobservable objects that lie outside of your vehicle’s path at night. The system also predicts bends and depressions in a road via GPS, and allows your headlights to adjust their beams accordingly.

Unfortunately, the powers of GPS can be fickle –– connections are lost, maps are frozen –– but Ford has a backup plan. A forward-facing video camera in the rear-view mirror base discerns lane markings and anticipates the contours of a road, then stockpiles that information for next time. Even if GPS fails you, Ford headlight technology will make driving at night safer. 

Ford’s Spot Lighting gives you a heads up about objects in your vehicle’s path or just outside it using an infrared camera in your vehicle’s grille. The camera can identify and track up to eight people or large animals from a distance of 360 feet.

In addition, the system spotlights hazards on the road with a spot and stripe on the road illuminated by two LED lamps beside the fog lights. The spotlighted objects are signified by a red or yellow box on your vehicle’s dash screen according to their proximity to you.

For now Ford’s headlight technology is still under development and testing in Europe, but it’s obvious that these systems will increase your safety once they’re road-ready. You may already pay extra attention to the road when the sun goes down, but in reality you're never fully aware of your surroundings at night, a time when hazards lurk behind sudden curves or on the dark edge of a road.
