WESTLAND, Mich. - A survey recently collected data from 13,000 U.S. adults who visited KBB.com (Kelley Blue Book) between January and June and found that gender affects car-shopping decisions. Surveys were anonymous and linked to responders' online shopping data, allowing the site to observe the shopping habits of the two genders.
The survey found that gender affects car-shopping decisions in a variety of ways. Data found that 76 percent of women tended to search for safety features, while only 61 percent of men do so. Women tend to gravitate towards cars with great safety ratings, as well as vehicles that are fuel efficient. 67 percents of women searched for 'fuel efficient' when searching for their next vehicle, while only 48 percent of men did.
When it comes to what men look for the most, it tends to be vehicles that are more 'rugged'. 28 percent of men were likely to shop for vehicles that are considered 'durable', 'tough', and/or 'fast', while only 19 percent of women used these search terms. The survey also revealed that men are more likely to stick with the brands they grew up with.
Overall, the data showed overwhelming support that women tend to gravitate towards cars that are safe and affordable, while men focus on the exterior styling and 'rugged' reputations.
