When Are the Best and Worst Times to Travel for Thanksgiving?

WESTLAND, Mich. –– Last year, AAA estimated over 46 million people would make a pilgrimage of 50 miles or more for turkey on Thanksgiving, and it's right to assume that number could stay consistent this November. With copious cars and families making holiday journeys, traffic jams and gridlock are inevitable if you don't know when the best and worst times are to travel for Thanksgiving.

When Are the Best and Worst Times to Travel for Thanksgiving?

Fortunately, Google spent two years analyzing traffic conditions around the time of Thanksgiving and compiled a mass of helpful data for you to plan your Turkey Day travels around. Before you hit the road for the holidays, consider using these tips to plan your trip.

The worst day to travel is Wednesday.
If you haven't noticed, everyone else usually has the same brilliant idea as you do, which means millions of travelers are planning on taking half-days at work and making turkey trips on Wednesday. It's best to avoid traveling the day before Thanksgiving, but if you have to make the trip on Wednesday, avoid traveling from 3–5 p.m. when the heaviest traffic is likely to occur.

The best day to travel is Thursday.
Is it any surprise the day that most people are busy watching football or sitting down to feast on a bird also happens to be the best to travel on? It may not seem ideal arriving at your Thanksgiving destination on the day of, but if you like the idea of skipping out on traffic jams and gridlock then traveling on Thursday could work in your favor.

Watch more football on Saturday, head home Sunday.
It's understandable that you don't want to overstay your welcome at a family member's, or maybe you're just ready to get home. Either way, staying an extra day could save you from a stressful return journey. Heading-home, traffic on Thanksgiving weekend can be 40% worse on Saturday than on other days. On that note, have another helping of turkey and mashed potatoes, or one of these Thanksgiving side dishes, because you're sticking around until Sunday if you want to dodge traffic.

In addition to understanding when the best and worst times are to travel for Thanksgiving, it's good to know a few travel tips that can keep you safe on the road.

  • Check the weather ahead before you set out to avoid accident-prone highways as well as the traffic jams that result from slower speeds and wrecks.
  • Map your route in advance. Knowing where construction and busy roads are will significantly reduce your time on the road.
  • Have roadside assistance contact information on hand. If you encounter a problem or you're involved in an accident, you should have your roadside assistance number and policy information ready.
  • Make sure your vehicle is prepared for the drive. If your vehicle hasn't had any recent  taken care of, it could have a few underlying issues developing. Stop by our service center for an oil change and to have your tires inspected before your long drive. It might also be helpful to take a look at our other car care and driving tips.

We're always happy to help our customers prepare for safe travels. If you have other questions or maintenance needs, stop by North Brothers Ford, located at 33300 Ford Rd Westland, MI 48185. Ford's Newest Crossover Family Addition - The EcoSport

WESTLAND, Mich.–– All the excitement is over Ford and it's newest crossover family addition, The EcoSport. In the first ever Snapchat reveal, Ford welcomed the EcoSport to the U.S. yesterday in Los Angeles during the consumer experience event appropriately named Go Small, Live Big. The latter mentioned name is the motto of the EcoSport. This small or compact crossover is made to give consumers the space and features they want in a convenient package. Let's take a look at the EcoSport a little more in depth.

Imagine a smaller version of the Ford Escape, and there you have the EcoSport. Although it is a smaller vehicle that takes up less space, that doesn't mean the EcoSport lacks in areas like style, technology, and capability. This vehicle is built for the person who believes in living big and adventurous, the one who needs the capability and connectivity wherever they go without the cost of more gas or lower mpg. Think of the EcoSport as a tiny home.

“More people are choosing to spend their time and money sharing experiences with friends and family instead of buying more stuff,” said Chantel Lenard, ‎executive director, Ford U.S. marketing. “EcoSport fits perfectly into this growing lifestyle. It’s our smallest SUV, packed with features and personality.”

The Ford EcoSport:

-Comes in 10 exterior colors
-Comes with 7 ambient lighting options
-Comes available in 4 different trim levels
-Includes an available B&O PLAY audio system by Harman
-Includes 10 speakers with HD Radio technology
-Features Intelligent 4WD
-Comes with a sport-tuned suspension and steering
-Comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on the 8inch display
-Up to 30 stowage pockets, hooks, bins, etc. + a cargo management system

Even though the complete specifications aren't available just yet, the release of Ford's newest crossover family addition, The EcoSport, we're excited to see it make its way into the U.S. and onto the roads! The EcoSport is expected to make it to dealerships in early 2018.

If you're looking for a larger crossover, or maybe something smaller than the EcoSport, Ford has many great options within their lineup and on our lots now like the 2017 Ford Escape or 2017 Ford Fusion! We'd love to help you find just what you need in a vehicle. At North Brothers we make sure to find vehicles that fit your budget, so you can be proud of your purchase!

Join Ford in Celebrating Detroit Innovation at This Year's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Join Ford in Celebrating Detroit Innovation at This Year's Thanksgiving Day ParadeWESTLAND, Mich.––If you'll be tuning in to watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade roll down the streets of Detroit this year on November 24th, you might notice some new things. Ford will of course be there, continuing the tradition of supporting its hometown, but in a more prevalent way. The entire 90th anniversary parade will be powered by more than 40 Ford vehicles like the F-Series trucks, Mustangs, and Explorers. Not to mention, Ford will be largely represented by the new float, appropriately named "Mobility One". We hope you'll join Ford in celebrating Detroit innovation at this year's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

The new Mobility One float will be 90 feet long and will feature a timeline of Ford's history of innovation in Detroit. The float will travel about 3 miles in the country's largest and longest-running parade. If you're watching from home, a large Henry Ford will fill your screen, followed by young student figures, and a vision of the future where cars can fly.

Join Ford in Celebrating Detroit Innovation at This Year's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Throughout the Mobility One float will be embedded screens that will be showing highlights of Ford Fund's efforts to better the world. It won't just be figures and screens, but local people you'll see around the float. Allison Schmitt, a Canton native and 8x Olympic swimming medalist will be riding on the float to celebrate her families commitment to Ford. There will also be dozens of Ford Volunteer Corps members walking in stride with the float.

The float, Annual Ford Fireworks, and Ford's new sponsorship commitment of 3 years to the Thanksgiving Day Parade are just a few ways Ford is showing support for the Detroit community this November. Ford is also partnering with Holiday Meals on Wheels this year to get Thanksgiving Day meals out to over 6,000 home-bound seniors. As a group effort, Ford and The Parade Company and Gleaners Community Food Bank are teaming up to help feed 715,000 people! You can make a donation to the Food bank at gcfb.org.

In the past 10 years, Ford has made investments towards a Ford Resource Center, Cass Community Social Services' tiny homes project, emergency vehicle and mobile food pantry donations, the Ford STEAM Lab, and the Bill Ford Better World Challenge grant to University of Detroit-Mercy.

Join Ford in celebrating Detroit innovation at this year's Thanksgiving Day Parade by tuning in on channels WDIV-TV, WJR-AM, and WOMC-FM at 8:45am when the parade begins. We're proud to represent a company that consistently innovates for a better world and safer future, and that assists young minds in making a difference by following their dreams. We're proud to be a community partner to many organizations in the Westland area, and want to help provide community members safe and reliable vehicles.
