Kelsey’s Law To Ban Teens Talking And Driving

Kelsey’s Law To Ban Teens Talking And Driving

WESTLAND, Mich.- Kelsey’s Law, a new law added to the Michigan Vehicle Code that bans teenage drivers from talking on their cell phones while driving, takes effect today, March 28, 2013. The law was signed by Governor Rick Synder because of the danger of new drivers being distracted by their cell phones. The law is named after Kesey Raffaele, a 17 year-old resident of Sault Ste. Marie, who was killed in a 2010 car accident that occurred while she was talking on her cell phone. The law applies to Level 1 and 2 drivers but not Level 3 drivers—Level 1 is a supervised learner's license, Level 2 is an intermediate license that limits passengers and unsupervised nighttime driving, and Level 3 is a full-privilege driver's license. Level 1 and 2 Drivers will be fined up to $295 in fines and costs and will be convicted for a civil infraction for trying to make a phone call, answering a phone call, listening to a phone call, or for engaging in verbal conversation through a cell phone. However, this does not apply if they are reporting an accident, emergency, dangerous road hazard, a crime, or a situation where their personal safety is in jeopardy. State legislators believe that this will result in a reduction in car accidents in the State.

Ford SYNC, a voice activated communications system developed by Ford Motor Company, addresses the issue of distracted driving because it allows for hands-free communication, navigation, and entertainment. The Ford SYNC system complies with Kelsey’s law because the law was written to allow individuals to use voice-operated systems integrated into their cars. Ford vehicles that include this system include the 2013 Fusion, Expedition, Mustang, Focus, Fiesta, Taurus, Edge, Flex, and numerous other models.

Leaked Photos 2015 Ford Mustang

Rumors and leaked pics surrounding 2015 Mustang

Photos of the 2015 Ford Mustang prototype have been spreading around the net after seemingly being leaked. The digital community has now had the opportunity to glimpse at the new sixth-generation design concept, which appears to combine some of the original Mustang styling with a rounded and more compact modernistic look.

The photos in question are of several unfinished clay models that easily could be the 2015 muscle car; featuring a design that seems on par with the design team that revamped the Fusion and won Best Styling at the Brand Image Awards. Another source of curiosity is how the vehicle will be powered—Ford Motor Company announced they will be selling the Mustang in Europe and this has opened the door to a discussion of a possible EcoBoost 4-cylinder Mustang. Bloggers speculate that a 6-cylinder will be the basic package and that the 4-cylinder would only be offered in Europe, if it is at all. The  2015 Ford Mustang will hit the market in 2014, with a good chance that the unveiling will be coordinated with Ford's 50th Anniversary of the Mustang in April 2014.

Spring Car Care Tips

Spring Car Care Tips
WESTLAND, Mich.- While it hasn't exactly warmed up yet, the first day of spring is behind us. That means it's time to add a little spring cleaning to your to-do list, and that goes for your vehicle too. Winter weather takes a toll on your vehicle, so it's time to freshen up and reverse the damage. If you don't want to spend all afternoon cleaning out your car, attempt one of our Spring Car Care Tips per day and your ride will be squeaky clean before you know it!

Spring Car Care Tips-

-Give it a good wash. If you can't hand wash your vehicle, go to the car wash and ask for a wash that includes the undercarriage so you can get rid of all the salt and mud from the winter. A good waxing goes a long way too. If you notice any paint chips or scratches, take the time to touch them up so that you can prevent rusting.

-Clean the windows. Inside and out, and the windshield too. Getting rid of the dust film and fingerprints will increase visibility. While you're cleaning the windshield, keep an eye out for any stone chips that can be repaired before the spread, and take a look at you windshield wipers too to make sure they aren't cracked or streaking.

-Clean the carpet. First give your vehicle a good vacuuming. If you have mats, take them out next time you get out of the car, rinse them off, and hang to dry. If you don't have mats or if your carpet is especially salty from the winter months, it's important to give it a good shampoo to prevent rusting under the carpet.

-Tune up. An easy way to get your car ready for spring is to bring it in for a tune up to make sure all fluid levels are adequate, oil and filters are set to go, and tires are in good condition and properly inflated.

Start the season off right with our Spring Car Care Tips, and you'll be ready to cruise into warmer weather. For more information, check out our Maintenance Tips or stop by our Service Center! Safe Driving Tips For Teens & Their Parents

Safe Driving Tips For Teens & Their Parents

WESTLAND, Mich.– Did you know that traffic fatalities are the leading cause of death for American teens? You may have heard about the recent crashes involving teen drivers have led to more than a dozen teenagers tragically losing their lives. A recent report by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) shows that teen driver fatalities are on the rise among 16-17-year-old drivers.

Parents can help reverse that trend. Most importantly, by setting a good example behind the wheel, parents can increase the chances their children will adopt safe driving practices too. Research done for Ford’s Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) program shows teens tend to emulate how their parents drive. In fact, more than three quarters of teens and tweens surveyed say they rely heavily on their parents’ advice when they start to drive. Experts from Ford Driving Skills for Life have a few Safe Driving Tips For Teens & Their Parents to foster safe driving habits:

Engage in the driving process – As teens get closer to earning/acquiring their learner’s
permit, parents should actively engage with them about driving. Talk about safe driving
behaviors, practice with them, seek educational opportunities, and be clear that unsafe
actions won’t be tolerated.

Buckle up – It’s the law, and if parents don’t wear their seat belts, their teen is more likely to
do the same. In a crash, a person not buckled up is much more likely to be injured or killed
than someone wearing a seat belt.

Never speed – Research done for Ford Driving Skills for Life shows that if parents speed,
their teens are more likely to do the same. Excessive speed continues to be a factor in
about one third of all traffic deaths nationally.

Don’t drive distracted – By setting a tough “no distractions” rule for their teens and
modeling this same behavior, parents send the message that distracted driving will not be
tolerated.

Don’t follow too closely – Parents should keep the proper distance from the car in front of
them. Rear end collisions are common and preventable.

Always scan ahead for hazards – Parents should remind their teens to be aware of what
is going on around them by scanning to the right and left as they drive

Limit the number of passengers – Research shows young drivers can easily be distracted
by just one additional passenger – increasing the risk of a crash exponentially. Many
graduated driver’s license programs restrict the number of passengers as a condition of
issuing an early license or permit; parents should enforce those restrictions.

Never drink and drive – Parents should remind teens that drinking and driving will not be
tolerated.

How To Find The Right Car For You

WESTLAND, Mich.- There may come a time that you may realize you want a new car, or you may discover a need for another vehicle in your household. But, the process of purchasing a vehicle may appear intimidating, or you might be unsure of where to even start. Purchasing a car is a big investment, so we want to make sure you are completely satisfied with your selection by helping you figure out How To Find The Right Car For You in 8 simple steps.

1. Take the time to think about what kind of car you need. It's important to examine your needs first to ensure you select a vehicle that will solve your current problem. What do you need to use your vehicle for?

2. Do you know how much you can afford? We want to help you find a vehicle that adresses all your needs and wants but a monthly payment that fits into your budget is crucial. Although all situations are different, it is typical that your monthly car payment shouldn't exceed 20% of your monthly take home pay.

3. The debate of whether to buy or lease. There are advantages and disadvantages to each situation so it is important to weigh all of the pros and cons before settling. Whether to buy or lease will depend on your personal situation and preferences.

4. Don't settle too soon. If you have a vehicle that you are interested in, make sure you consider all vehicles in that class as well as similar vehicles so you are aware of all of your options.

5. Make sure to consider all of the costs of ownership. The cost of ownership is different than how much it costs to buy a vehicle and includes depreciation, insurance, maintenance, and fuel costs. So while two vehicles may be similar in price, they may vary drastically in cost of ownership.

6. Research, research, research. In today's age, there are so many resources available on the web that car buyers have an endless source of information at their fingertips. By researching vehicles that you are interested in online, you'll be able to provide your salesperson with more information regarding your needs and wants when you visit the dealership.

7. Don't skip the test drive. Taking a test drive is one of the most important parts of finding the right car for you. You can't truly experience the vehicle unless you actually drive it. And for that matter, while on the test drive, make sure to take it on your normal route so you can experience the vehicle in your normal driving conditions. If you're not happy with the car, test drive a different one.

8. After researching similar vehicles that fit into your monthly budget and taking them for a test drive. It's a great idea to consider all of the information you have gathered before making the purchase so you can be completely confident that the vehicle is right for you. If you have any doubts, make you salesperson aware so they can help you find the perfect vehicle for your needs.
