1903 Model A Back with Ford Family
WESTLAND, Mich.- After its first sale in July of 1903, the World's Oldest Ford Vehicle is now back with the Ford family. Acquired at an auction in Hershey, PA, this past October by Bill Ford Jr. for $264,000, this was the perfect purchase to kick off the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Henry Ford's birth. The 1903 Model A will become part of Ford's permanent collection.
After the trials and tribulations experienced over several years in a effort to build a car that would be a commercial success, this 1903 Model A was Ford Motor Company's first production vehicle to be sold. Weighing in at just 1,250 pounds the first Model A exerted 8 horsepower and could accelerate up to 30 mph. The oldest Model A was shipped from the Ford plant on Mack Avenue in Detroit and has has just 5 registered users since its production in 1903!
