Ford is Empowering Young Minds with the Girl Scout Fast Track Races Program

WESTLAND, Mich.––The Girl Scouts of America are widely known as the source for delicious cookies, however there is much more to the organization than that. While the cookies do teach strong lessons in sales and business, the goal of the Girl Scouts organization is to build the courage, confidence, and character of these girls who make the world a better place. As we've started to see a trend in encouraging young ladies to explore their interests in the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) areas, Ford has seized the opportunity to help in making that happen. Ford is empowering young minds with the Girl Scouts Fast Track Races program.

These Fast Track Races are typically associated with the Boy Scouts. It's the building and designing of wooden block cars that race a track where the fastest car wins. These races rely on technical research, testing, and building to create the car. Ford Motor Company has partnered with Girl Scouts Councils in Northern New Jersey, Tropical Florida, Northeast Texas, and Southeastern Michigan. This particular program will facilitate 200 Brownies and 200 Juniors from each of the councils.

The goals of these races is to encourage and support these girls' interest and aptitude for technical subjects, that's often not seen throughout education in school and out. The Girls' Fast Track Races are just one of many Ford STEAM Experience programs, which were built to introduce, excite, and expand on opportunities for science, technology, engineering, art, and math careers.

“Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas is excited to team up with Ford Motor Company, to inspire these members who are interested in science, technology, engineering and math,” said Jennifer Bartkowski, CEO Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas. “Girls need opportunities to expand their realm of what’s possible. Through this collaboration, girls will get to explore STEAM concepts and careers as they design, test and race their own cars.”
